quite often there are container ships or tankers that are "waiting their turn"........especially on the weekends.
my guess is by monday they will have moved on. a few years ago, my son did his semester at sea on a maersk container ship. they sat about a mile offshore of their port of call for 2 days. dear son was not very happy looking in and waiting. |

Ships are sometimes also anchored off the coast in order for commercial divers to do hull checks and/or underwater repairs/maintenance.
