74 year old in critical condition

As I say everytime - I hate posting this stuff - but I believe people have a right to know what is really happening in Aruba and even living here as an English-only person - information is hard to come by. I know every country is having problems with unemployment and kids - but this is
very alarming...

Big breath - exhale -

In the Diario Newspaper on Saturday there were 2 articles....

http://www.diarioaruba.com/diasabra/noticia/news1.html

Translation -
It is a very sad case, which happened ..the evening of April 29.
A group of brown skin young men , ages 14 to 20, had brutally attacked a senior couple(him 73, her70) , on the beach between L.Cabana and Amsterdam Manor.
The Police is pleading with the public/newspaper to help apprehend this 'bunch'.
The man received severe trauma , is still in critical condition in the hospital.
The incident started with the group grabbing the lady"s purse.

<<<<<<The next article in that same diario....is showing how a terrible situation is becoming an ever increasing problem..."wild uncontrolled young people".
It is my opinion, that these young people are those brought in as young kids by the immigrant parents(hotel workers)...they are basically left to their own ...as the parents are struggling to make a living.
As such, those of same nationality/background are joining into gangs/violence.
Aruba, is undergoing a terrible situation, now that employment is becoming a problem, along with guns and drugs...
The government is SLOW in waking up, but there is a sign of realization that something must be done.....now.

ouch...you know, i did notice a young group of kids idling by the moomba bar every night. they're always the same group of local kids - bored out of their minds, hanging about the bar (not drinking), and smoking. one of them actually slurred a racial comment at me which i simply ignored and brushed off as idiotic gestures of bored teenagers. but i did make sure i had my wits about me everytime i walked back to the marriott's....and the darkness/dimly lit pathways did not do us comfort.....

This is just the thing Aruba doesn't need,if the government doesn't stop gang crime and you say its at the resorts, people will stop coming to Aruba.Where are the Police and hotel security.Fix it NOW..

This is not right. I think not only the government and police needs to do something, but us tourist need to help if we see anything like this going on. All my preayers go to the victims, but also to these young men that they find something better in life and GOD help them out.

Thank You Lizzardo for keeping us informed. I typically read well at least look at the pictures in the AWEMainta paper. As these papers tell the story of island life today. Good and bad.

Wow, and me and my wife walked from the low rise area to the hard rock Friday night. the main road is very dark and there are no sidewalks. I was confortable with it but if the violence continues I would not be so quick to take an after dark hike like that again.

From this video it appears it happened on the sidewalk not on the beach.
