My husband says I can't be trusted with cash. He might be right considering I threw my walletin the trash in the lobby at Holiday Inn once...we found it shortly after.
Not sure when, but we will be back

the majority of my cash is spent in the morning after dropping hubby off at beach. that's when i shop, lol. gambling, i have a strict limit because it irks me to give the casinos money. and since i would play the penny slots, lol, i am never going to win big. just something to do. shopping is my "casino", lol, and Aruba has some great shopping, the best of any caribbean island I've ever been to.

What I like about these "pre-loaded" cards is that I can access cash via an ATM without using my bank account and the inherent risk associated with that. I also don't ever use credit cards to get cash because interest starts on day one with cash advances, and I hate to pay interest on credit cards.

Visa will be much better than Amex, as Visa is accepted most everywhere. Half of the ATMs in Aruba don't accept Amex.

I would assume there would an associated fee with using the card at an ATM in Aruba? Also I guess you would have to continually check the balance online? Thanks Rob

only use credit card for car rental and to pay the hotel bill when we leave. We used to bring traveler's check with us all the time and cash them at the casinos. We found out that if you aren't staying at the hotel which has the casino you can't cash them anymore. Found this last year with the Hyatt and Raddison . HI and downtown would still cash them.
    We just do cash now.

Ditto. Only use credit cards when needed (hotel, car rental, emergencies). Cash is king. Our preference when traveling anywhere.

Wow, I didn't know about that and am a AAA member. The perks look great too. I hope the VISA version will be as easy to use with other benefits as well.

We use our credit cards for everything except tips or cash only locations and pay the balances off every month. We use the reward points for our airfare to Aruba. This works out great for us, as we've been able to cover the airfare with rewards the last eight trips.

take credit card with me because I have to use them to secure car and room but I pay for everything with cash. I didn't when we originally started going to Aruba but then all the credit card companies started to charge for foreign transactions so I quit using them. Used them to check in and get car then paid cash when leaving. Now my cards all have removed fees....so I am not sure whether I will leave charges on cards or not. I have gotten used to traveling with cash and like the idea of paying and not having a stroke when the bills come in the mail a month after vacation is over.......
