Our Capitol 1 cards do not charge exchange fees. Also, one year when our rental car was hit in a parking lot while unattended they paid the whole bill, including the estimating fee.

Cindy and Rob - have you started using the AAA preloaded Visa? Any good/bad experiences on your most recent trip to Aruba? I can't seem to get traveler's checks anywhere locally anymore without opening a new bank account.
Not sure when, but we will be back

Our credit union has stopped selling travellers checks. We really like these types of alternative options for our casino cash so it is not tied to our primary checking accounts and atm cards. We have more security than cash and don't have to worry about theft of our account information. I haven't decided what we will do for our upcoming trip as an alternative.
Last year I was able to get AMEX travelers checks at one bank here. This May only one credit union had them and they would only sell to members. We ended up taking cash which I hate.

All my credit cards pay for collision damage on rental cars and my AMEX does not charge transaction fees. That being said, I don't want to do cash advances in a foreign country with my credit card. No telling what can and does happen.

We may end up just using our atm card to get cash and pay whatever the fee is. We have done that in the past. I don't like having much cash on us.

We used the AAA AmEx in Aruba early October. Will test the new card in Aruba after Christmas. Expecting it to be more versatile, AmEx is not accepted in many places.

We encountered 2 restaurants in May that do not take AMEX. One was Big Mamas at Baby Beach and I cant remember the other place. Also don't think the gas station at Noord took Amex either. We have a VISA and MC though so no problem.
