Re: Advice

Use sun screen! Visit the Natural Pool and have fun. The locals are all friendly and speak English.

Re: Advice

You don't have to worry to much about
Aruba as far as where to go and not to go.

Make sure to go to Carlo's and Charlie's
in downtown Oranjstead...you can either
take a bus or a taxi...we generally just
take a taxi..

It's a very safe place.

Rent a jeep and tour the desert side
of Aruba....it's so completely different
than the beach side....language is not
a barrier, because they speak English..

Shopping in great downtown....good buys
in jewelery...
There is nothing to say negative about
Aruba..
Just enjoy.!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Advice

Shaun...

You are going to have a great time! Here's some advice:

Do's

1. Wear sunscreen...and lots of it! If you are from northern latitudes and are not accustomed to strong sun you will burn...guaranteed. Lather up in the morning before leaving your room and reapply throughout the day. You might also consider visiting a tanning salon in the states now to build up a base tan to protect yourself. I burnt to a crisp my first time in Aruba and learned my lesson. Nothing ruins a trip faster than getting a bad sunburn the first day.

2. Get out of the hotel and explore all that Aruba has to offer in terms of bars and restaurants. If you spend your whole trip at or near your hotel it would be a shame. There are more great restaurants than you can shake a stick at. For advice in this regard just see posts on the dining forum here or visit www.restaurantsaruba.com for reviews.

3. Explore the island. Either take a guided daytrip to see the sights with a tour company or do it yourself. Rent a car and get a map from the rental agency and drive around. The island is small enough so that you won't get lost. If you plan on driving on the rugged eastern side of the island a jeep or 4 wheel drive is needed as the roads are not great.

Donts

1. Don't be the stereotypical loud obnoxious American.

2. Don't be worried about all of that Natalie Halloway stuff as the island is completely safe. Funny how in one year one girl goes missing in Aruba and everyone freaks out, but hundreds of children go missing in the US daily and no one bats an eye...talk about double standards (I'll get down off my soapbox now).

3. Don't spend your whole trip in your hotel...get out and see the island!

4. Don't worry about the weather...Any rain showers that occur usually last only a few minutes...this is a desert island after all!

HAVE FUN!!
