We plan on packing some stuff to take over. Not sure about the meats though...I read somewhere that people put coolers in their luggage...I am afraid to do that. Plus I take alot of stuff on vacation and I am sure the meat will take me over the luggage limit
When we fly Jet Blue to Bermuda, we check through a cooler on wheels with frozen meat (I believe you're allowed 5 lbs per person) and other food (no fresh veggies allowed!). Since we take carry-ons for a 5 day stay, we also put shampoo, sunscreen, etc in the cooler!) When we fly home we fill it up like an extra suitcase!

Aruba customs allow each adult to bring in one fifth (750 ml) so that is what we do. Also pack a couple of tonic and cranberry juice, just to get us started. This stuff goes in a suitcase with things that won't be damaged if the bottles leak. After a shampoo incident a few years ago, we also put our toiletries in this suitcase.

Obviously, this bag is checked luggage, not a carry on.

Thanks for all the great information.

As far as the debit card goes, I had not planned on using it if I didnt have to. Just as for emergencies if one should arise. We were going to take cash and I was considering travelers cheques as well. but we had not decided.

I am sure that DH will love to hear about taking liquor...but I did read somewhere that it is cheaper in aruba??? Is that correct?

Again, I am just writing down and absorbing all of this information. SO SO glad I found this forum

noticed that you said you pack alot......try to downsize on the clothing as you will spend most of your time in bathingsuits.....all of the hotel restaurants allow you to come in with a bathingsuit with a coverup if inside without if out.
this way you can pack some munchies like trail mixes that you can take to beach and nibble on..we usually pack a bottle of alcohol or buy a bottle once there and get some soda to help the pocketbook a little, you can mix a drink in the room and take it to the beach in a sippy cup.....there are a couple of breakfast options that can help keep costs down as well...mi dushi bagels are in the high rise area so you can frequent them.....as well as going to local groceries for fruits, cheese, crackers and such......
We went in November for 3 weeks and too 4,000.....I used my credit card twice, but when I came back I send the remaining cash in to pay for what I charged,,,,so we spent that much in 3 weeks...(2 of us).....have read a lot of folks pack frozen meat in a cooler, then use it as one of their checked bags..usually still frozen when they get to island since baggage compartments arent heated during flights.....we may do that this year ourselves...

when drinking just remember....happy hours help alot...also take to packs they give at airport, they usually include stuff from restaurants like free glass of wine with meal or free appetizers or desert ...etc....hope some of this helps with your money plans.....

let us know how everything turned out ...and have fun !!!!!

Yeah next year we plan on taking some frozen food with us as we will be staying for 2 weeks also....This past trip I figured on about 250.00 per day (we don't drink much) I think I took about 1800.00 for the week... and it lasted.

Regarding liquor, you are allowed 1 Liter per person, we pack 1.75 bottles of rum, no need for mixer of any kind, all is available, zip lock and then bubble wrap, no problems. Enjoy your trip!

Sunny Beaches is correct, you can buy any mixer you might want and some you may have never seen @ Ling's. We just pack some to get us started.

Back to the money thing, Beth's dad took 2k for him and her mom for the week and did not run short but did buy some things with cc.

You do not have to spend a pile of money to have fun...spending the day on the beach is free!!

spending money for a couple with 2 kids

I will be staying at the Marriott Surf club so i will have a full kitchen to dine in if we choose. my wife and I are taking our 4 year old and 18 month old sons. Just wondering if anyone has been to Aruba along those lines and how much they spent. We will have a few dinners out at resturants buy definatly not every night. breakfast and lunch will probably be mostly in the room. we probably wont drink very much due to the kiddos. does anyone relate to this and have an idea of approx spending money?
