Airfare....way ahead of time

Hi, new to the board. First time to Aruba. Does anyone know what airlines fly from Detroit and how far in advance you can book?

Re: Airfare....way ahead of time

you could probably book a year in advance. But keep checking prices they do go way up and way down. Good luck Try 5 to 6 months in advance

Re: Airfare....way ahead of time

Tina,

Last year we booked on USA3000, but out of Pittsburg. We are from Detroit suburbs- and saved 400pp by flying out of Pittsburg PA. It was about a 4 hour drive. RT from Pittsburg was $378.00PP from Detroit it was over 800pp.and the flight got in real late after flying all over the US first. The flight from Pittsburg left at 6am and got to Aruba at 10am- we had the whole day to enjoy.
Also try funjet.com. I just noticed yesterday that Ryan International was flying out of Detroit to Aruba for only $199. RT but it was only one day. My suggestion is to look closer to the date you are planning on going- you will get a better price.

Is it a return trip, or your first visit t Aruba? Enjoy it.... either way!

Kathy

I believe the furthest in advance you can book a flight is 330 days; that's what comes up every time I try booking well in advance.

I always book as soon as I can. If the price goes down I get a credit voucher. You can book something like 331 days in advance.

Re: Airfare....way ahead of time

US Air allows you to book 330 days in advance. I just received my tickets for Feb. 2nd, 2007 ~ returning March 3, 2007.
Leaving out of Philly, direct flight was $776.75 less a $100 voucher I had = $676.00.

If the flight goes down in price like it did last year, US Air will give you a voucher for the difference. I continually go online to check the fare between now and February...
It's a no lose situation, if it goes higher you're a winner, and should it go lower, you get the difference back.

Re: Airfare....way ahead of time

There are various ways to get to Aruba and it depends on your comfort level. USA3000 out of Pittsburgh is cheap... but very cramped. FunJet is the same way. Buying regular airfare with a normal carrier is a little more expensive, but nicer and more room. here is a link to arrivals and departures for Aruba, but it does not include charter flights like Apple, USA3000, Funjet or the like.... hope it helps.

Re: Airfare....way ahead of time

We just booked for next February(weeks 6-7). We always start early and search the web...this time we found a flight thru Delta with one stop in Atlanta for @750 pp.The charters are the cheapest but leave on Sundays(we leave Saturdays). Those prices come out in August or so per our travel agent.

Re: Airfare....way ahead of time

we booked our airfare 9 mos prior to going to Aruba in March 06. It was $450 pp + 80 in taxes RT from Boston, we used American Airlines. My husband is 6'4 and his legs were just as cramped in AA on a 757 as it was in a charter.

Re: Airfare....way ahead of time

Elaine S, question: If the rates go down after you purchase your ticket or tickets, you can get the difference back in a voucher for another ticket in the future, is that correct? Also once you fly, any reduced rates will not get you a voucher for the difference, is that correct as well?

Reason why I'm asking, several family members are going to Aruba next yr. but it will be their only one time going.
They do not fly anywhere ever, so they will be searching for the best price on a one time basis.

If they wait too long they may lose out with no seats available, or if they book now they may pay a much higher rate than if they wait???
I'm not sure what to recommend to them. Over yrs. I've seen rates very high at high season times and also a lot lower at high season than in the summer or fall months.
What now? Thanks, rubacal
