Airfares

From those of who have gone from Minneapolis to Aruba in the past what is a good airfare in February? Just wondering when we should lock in to the airfare. Also, which airports are best to transfer in (since there are no nonstops). It looks as though our choices are going to be Chicago (which I am trying to stay away from because of possible snow storms), Charlotte, New Jersey and Miami.
Thanks.

We live in Minneapolis and are going on our 16th trip to Aruba in Sept. Our rule of thumb is that anything under $500 is a good fare out of MSP. But we go to Aruba in April and Sept. so I'm not sure what the fares might be like for Feb.

We've taken different airlines/connections over the years and the easiest one is through Charlotte - small, well-organized airport.

According to www.farecompare.com right now you are looking at

using Feb 6, 2008 as an example, including all taxes...
American $547
Continental $547
Delta $554
Northwest $555
US Airways $558

Just keep in mind, that the cheaper fares sell out first. If there is a glut of seats there may be sales, but if you have definite plans or require specific dates, you may or may not wish to take that chance. February is high season for Aruba.

Of the ones Lisa noted above, you only want to be looking at Delta or US Air (or United) - they have the best connections/times and will get you into Aruba by 3:30pm. The others all require an overnight stay and American doesn't get you into Aruba unti 7:30pm.

Airfares

Thanks! Our dates are set...February 2-9 so we are stuck other than we could probably go there a day or 2 earlier and just find a place for a couple of days. I was looking at US Air but for these dates they are quite a bit more than others. AA is the cheapest but not great times. Continental isn't too bad but goes through Newark so I'm not sure on that one--worried about winter storms. Many flights go through Chicago and I really don't want that because of possible snow storms. Any input/suggestions will be appreciated.

Did you check Delta? Their connection is through Atlanta.
