Airport Security With Wheelchair For Elderly

We'll be there soon with my 91 year old father in a wheelchair. We've requested an escort to help us on both ends of our flights. On another web site I saw that a family of 4 with one person in a chair was split up. The husband and teenager was left in the long line.

What can we expect with only 3 of us travelling? I don't want us split up where either my husband goes with my father and I'm left alone or vice versa.

Please let me know about the leaving protocol also. I would think it would be best if we're all together then also. When should we be at the airport that day? It's a Saturday.

Karen,
I answered your 6/21 post. There didn't appear to be any posting for a couple of days, but I answered it on the 24th as soon as I saw it. You can go back to older messages and find it. Any other questions just let me know. Judy

I don't think that you should have a problem. The airport at both ends are very cooperate when it comes to the handicap. I was in a wheelchair last Feb/., and even though it was only my husband and myself they were very helpful at both ends. Don't let this bother you and relax.

Re: Airport Security With Wheelchair For Elderly

Judy and Linda,

Thank you both. I couldn't find my original post. Is there a way to check previous postings?

It seems that we can relax and look forward to a nice 2 weeks there.

Judy, again thank you for the advise. We've had good help on our previous flight but I was concerned about this from a previous posting.

I have a post about help while in Aruba and several people have written. My father's really good for 91, but we'd like a bit of insurance. I'm sure you know what we mean.

Head of line!!!!

Don't know who you call(might be airline and also remind flight attendant) but you will be escorted and go to head of line. Getting off plane its a must to be escorted as wheelchairs need to go through specials doors and elevators and you need special keys/access for those. Others use escalators. If can't use escalators get escorted going into Aruba. Carry small children on those escalators.

Re: Airport Security With Wheelchair For Elderly

I went to Aruba Last November with 3 people, 1 of which was in a wheel chair.

We were kept as a group the entire time. The only problem upon arrival was the wheelchair access door into the Aruba airport was locked. We had a wheel chair, but no one to let us in the door. Fortunately the perosn who needed the wheelchair could stand so we just carried it up and down the escalators. Once the Arubans realized we were there, we were escorted through the airport.

My suggestion would be to alert you flight attendant that you asked for a wheelchair and an escort at your home airport to met you in Aruba, and they can communicate this with the gate attendants.

Re: Airport Security With Wheelchair For Elderly

Karen,
You can find your original post 1 page back under the 6/24 post date, because that is when I replied to you. It comes just before your 1st request for help with the elderly in Aruba post. I believe the time was 14:39.
Just hit older messages and it will carry you back to that page: however, by tommorrow it might be 2 pages back. Bottom line - No problems for you I don't believe, but you might like to have some of the information I gave you. Thanks for the response back.
Judy
