    Alhambra Casino Robbed

    from the Aruba Herald

Venezuelans rob slot machine at Alhambra Casino of US$ 70K

A group of Venezuelans left Aruba with 70,000 USD they robbed at an Alhambra Casino slot machine, which they had tweaked in some "mysterious" way to pay out this considerable amount in one day. The tourists committed the robbery in one single day and at one single slot machine. Once casino security noticed what was happening, it was already late and 70,000 USD had been cashed in by the different players. Apparently they returned the next day, one of them came in to use the machine. When an employee said the machine was out of order and an investigation was ongoing the person disappeared. By the time the casino alerted police, the tourists had already left the island traveling to Panama via Curacao. Their departure could have been avoided, but the casino's security system and set up had not worked fast enough to make this possible.

now my question is, since the machines at Alhambra at TITO (ticket in ticket out)
the person(s) doing the stealing would have had to keep making trips to the cashier with the tickets to exchange for cash?
or did the thief/thieves reach inside the machine and steal the cash?

    i bet we'll never know.

Sounds like their security will need to be increased. Would love to know how those crooks pulled it off. Maybe it was misson impossible style where some floats down on a wire @ night to avoid security, lol

With the ticket system winnings were apparently NOT collected all at one time OR all by the same person.

A group of Venezuelans left Aruba with 70,000 USD they robbed at an Alhambra Casino slot machine
The tourists committed the robbery in one single day and at one single slot machine.
This was a GROUP of "tourists" working together.

Just as an example, if 6 of us went to at least 4 different cashiers (if there were even 2 windows open, you have to account for shift changes), 4 times over the course of 12 hours, there would be at total of 24 payouts. Add more people to the group and extend the period of time and the number of cashiers and it would have been pretty easy to disguise what was occurring.

Cannot help but think that the machines are all monitored remotely for malfunctions, payouts and etc. Surley someone would notice that much in payouts.... even to a bunch of people.

I won $800 in 3 card poker by hitting 2 straight flushes in a 45 minute period at the Hyatt in July- highly unlikely at a 40-1 payout and it had never happened to me before- and was surrounded by the "staff" until the dealer verified that it was legit and then they paid me off. They were obviously monitoring with cameras and were just doing their job.

Sounds like either the Alhambra security was dozing or maybe it was an inside job.

I hate to admit it but I too was thinking someone inside was involved, I hope I am wrong that would make me sad....It is weird this casino is not that large and to have a payout in that amount for a slot machine or even a bunch of machines seems so unlikely in a day. I hope they can eventully catch these people....I hope it is not my favorite slot machine I play all the time (LOL)....ironically my machine is the "cops and donuts" machine

Right.... even a 1000 payout at the Radisson in a TITO machine requires a hand pay by an attendant (and supervisor).
