At Allegro/Occidental now

I am in Aruba as I write this. Yesterday I went over to the Allegro. It was fenced off from the beach side. I saw the food courts completely removed. The game room(dance /bar/billiards) is also gone. The front entrance was boarded up but I could still see through some glass. The lobby is completely gone and they put a seperate entrance to the left for access to the casino to still be used for now. It was partially sealed off smaller. Spoke with a manager and he said the following. They dont expect an opening till maybe June or July of 2006. They need contractors and that supplies are expensive because of the Euro / dollar rates and everything is imported from Europe. Just like when the Radisson nearby went through there rehab they had a 1 year delay. I figured this and it's no surprise. They'r talking 5 star ratings when it does open. I'm at the Marriot for 2 weeks more. It's nice but when the Allegro re-opens it's blow this place away in the timeshare anyway. Ahh 2 bathrooms...heaven! And the location at the Allegro.NICE! Stay tuned and if you have any questions wirte me as I will keep you in tune! Got to get some sun... Bye!

Re: At Allegro/Occidental now

Well I'm sure we will all get conflicting stories. mIne is just what I see and have been told and past rehab Caribbean experiences.. Delays, etcetcetc..Well I'll go there in a few days and talk again.. Still here till the 20th... and yes it IS THE BEST SPOT! They are building up acroos the street from Holiday Inn to the Playa LInda...looks like many new stoefronts and a possible shoppping village

Re: At Allegro/Occidental now

Not sure which manager you spoke to but I just got off the plane and I had a coversation with the GM of the hotel!
He was confident it would be open this winter...he said partial opening December and I believe there will be a full reopening as of March! They are not going to miss the winter rush! There is a lot of work going on there and there are a lot of people from the staff that are doing the work, helping out.

Re: At Allegro/Occidental now

Occidental resorts sent me an email stating that they were introducing the Occidental Grand (formerly Allegro) in Aruba. They said that they will be reopening Late '05- Early '06. The hotel wouldnt be advertising if they werent plannnig on opening at that time.

Re: At Allegro/Occidental now

I spoke with the manager of the timeshare department who assured me that the resort will be reopening in December and work will be completely done very shortly after that. They are taking reservations for next year already.

Re: At Allegro/Occidental now

it better be open in april, 2006. this past april, we had to stay at the wyndham due to the renovations at the allegro. we had always stayed at the allegro for the past 4 years. staying at the wyndham was a lousy vacation for us for MANY reasons. nothing like the allegro. so, we are hoping to be able to go in april if renovations are completed.
any word on this?
