Nope. Very discouraged. They don't like it here because they charge more than Visa and MC. See many places that have clear signs that they don't accept it.

I'm sure it's not 100% across the board for all places, but they def. prefer Visa/MC.

We have always used it for our car rental. I think it has been with Budget and National in the past. Our next trips booked with Amigo and we booked with American Express card already with no problem.

We have always used AMEX while in Aruba. The only place we found that doesn't accept it is El Gaucho.

I too have found that many places don't take AMEX.The reason is $$$$$$$$.Take a visa/MC and you'll never have a problem.

I will take both AMEX and Visa/MC. My first choice is the AMEX, since I get my Jet Blue points from it.

American Express

Anyone have experience using AMEX in Aruba? We typically use VISA/MC when dining, but we were given $500 in AMEX gift cards. We always like to use these while traveling.

Thanks!

I have taken American Express travelers checks and not had a problem...But I tried to use an American Express gift card and they wouldn't take it...in a store don't know about restaurants. I wouldn't count on soley using that.
