Amsterdam Manor

We are presently staying at the Manor. What a lovely little place. We have done our share of the larger resorts mostly 4/5 star.If you want quiet and clean look no futher. The staff are very friendly and helpful. BUT DO YOUR HOMEWORK and before you come leave all your baggage (troubles) at home ....just relax..We have read with much interest most sites pertaining to Aruba. On a few sites they mention the smell of Effluent. Sorry but that is not what it is,the smell is decomposing vegetation. When you have rain, sunshine, heat and standing water, you get all sorts of goodies. But like I said before, DO YOUR HOMEWORK. Make notes of things to do and things to see, and have fun. So far we have found Arubians, pleasant, helpful and fun.Treat them the way you want to be treated.......Enjoy...Sun/Sand/Surf M/D

Re: Amsterdam Manor

AM is the best-kept secret in Aruba. We spent the last 2 New Year's Eves there - they do a great job and I will definitely go back.

Re: Amsterdam Manor

We just stayed at the AM for two nights between our timeshare at Marriott and Divi. I booked a 1 bedroom via Orbitz. When we arrived were given the Honeyhmoon Suite - - really was tired and just wanted to check in and get back to beach and our friends. Kitchen was, what can I say, non-existant - but then again "honeymooners don't cook". Long story short - Manager was accommodating our 1 bedroom unit was not available so he $$ compensated us. The smell does exist if you drive in along back road - - fortunately, winds keep odor from resort and room. I am very, very picky so let me just say; resort was immaculate and very quaint. Parking was very good (handicapped available every time we went in or out) unlike the Marriott! If I ever need unit between my weeks I would definitely returm.

Re: Amsterdam Manor

Dear Mick,Answer to your question. No. We have travelled to about 80 or 90 different Countries and some people like to know what to expect. Little things/you know like (ie) if you can drink the water, where can you buy food, medical attention, police actions, wars little things like that. M/D

Re: Amsterdam Manor

We too noticed the smell only on one side of the building at AM. We thought it was the sewage treatment plant that was close by. we stayed at La cabanana for a few days and the odor was at the very begining of AM closer to the high rise side, but ended as you hit mid resort at AM. It was there every day.We noticed it as we drove by in the car, and when we drove by in a boat.

Re: Amsterdam Manor

Correction to M/Ds report several days ago. With regards to the foul snell......... Obviously M/D has stuck to the confines of the beach this trip and not explored the back streets or roads. Between the Amsterdam Manor and Wyndam Resort there are sewage treatment settling ponds and a waste treatment center OH.. also at various locations around Aruba there are collection sites. So whichever way the winds blow the smell is sure to follow. Case Closed. Sam.

Re: Amsterdam Manor

Dear Sam, Please allow me a rebuttal. When you return home, where ever that maybe, you should seek out your own city, town waste water treatment plant and take a tour. Because of Govt. Standards these installations are very clean and in most cases odour free. (Wyndham Resorts) Thankyou M/D
