    Amusement Park Rides (Coney Island)

Here in the USA we'd call it a carnival.
In Aruba, they are calling this amusement park Coney Island.

It is located downtown, right near the cruise port in the area where the container port once stood.

I have been told it will be on island for at least 6 weeks.

Admission is $3 and the rides are additional $$.

I hope folks can post photos.

They tried to have it open for Xmas but they did not have everything set up and inspected in time....they lost a lot of money having it sit empty for several weeks.

We went by around 615 and there were a few people there and it was a bit busier around 8. It was backing up traffic because people were driving slow to look at it. You have to be careful because people are parking across the street and aimlessly crossing-I nearly hit a family that started to cross behind my car and then decided to go in front of me.

Its going to talk a lot more than a few people to recoup the costs of bringing "coney island" to Aruba. Its kinda like the water park idea that failed....not a great one IMO>

jay, i think you may be correct.

i do not think they will get lots of tourists.
    kids love the carnival/amusement rides.
but, in aruba.....families are on the beach, in the pool and taking part in many activities, possibly not including "coney island."

maybe cruise ships will bring in a few customers.
    but i am not sure.

then there re the aruba citizens.......my guess is that 75% of the "coney island" business will be from local families.
i cannot fathom the idea that this will even break even financially for the vendors.

This was known as an Amusement Park when they used to pass through Trinidad and Tobago. The rides were alright, the roller coaster was nothing compared to the Cyclone at Coney Island in NY, Rolling Thunder at Great Adventure in NJ, or Space Mountain at Disney in Orlando. Hopefully this should draw in a lot of locals as something to do on weekends or a Friday after school and work. It might even draw a crowd during Carnival seeing as schools will be closed.

Nice video Stephen, thanks! It looks like a fun spot for locals, I hope it can make money. As for us, we wouldn't be interested in something like this while we were there.
