I am new to this forum. I am getting married on July 12, 2008, and my fiancée and I would like to honeymoon in Aruba. The travel agent that my fiancée and I are using emailed us today that the "sentiment towards US visitors" might have changed for the worse in Aruba and that we might want to reconsider honeymooning in Aruba. I am assuming she is referring to the Natalie Holloway case. Has anyone experienced bad treatment towards US visitors?
I can't believe how amazed I am that the travel agent suggested anti-american sentiment. Let me start out by saying I am from USA in NH.
Most Arubans go out of their way to provide hospitality to tourists of all nationalities. My extended family has adopted and has been adopted by an Aruban family. Over the past 2+ years we have shared births, marriages, baptisms, and holidays together.
My husbands ex-family went to a wedding in Jun 07, and was taken on a private tour and brought to the home of the concierge of their hotel, on his day off.
On a recent trip I witnessed at a SPA an american honeymooner from the NE who was down right rude and insulting, when they (the honeymooners) made an error and went to the wrong hotels' facility for a couples massage. The people at the SPA were nothing but gracious under the attack of this woman. I was so incensed by the rudeness, and the disruption of my transquility, I had to hold myself back not to come to the SPA's defense.
Please feel extremely comfortable honeymooning in Aruba. Personally I think your biggest concern is in encountering a rude American.
the aruban citizens welcome the americans with open arms and their is "no ill will". as others have said or implied..............your travel agent is wrong.
aruba is still one happy island and is safe and wonderful

Your travel agent obviously has either gotten the wrong information or has their own bias.
Giving them the benefit of the doubt, that they are not biased and are just ignorant, it is time to find a new travel agent.
My dh and I have used MCM Tours http://www.aruba4u.com for over 8 years. They sell only travel to Aruba. Others here use them as well.
We are on the island now and have been coming here for over twenty years and nothing has changed from the people in all that time. The people of the island are wonderful and have suffered because of the Natalee Halloway situation which they had nothing to do with. Come and enjoy!
