Anyone heard anything about drugs down at the highrises??

Heard in the wind there is a problem with drugs down at the highrises. Anyone been there recently that might have heard anything about this? People being approached by locals...I am not looking to alarm anyone out there, just looking to see if the police are doing what they need to do to keep us safe, while we spend our hard earned money there.

ah thanks, now I know where I need to go. Only kiddin'! Hopefully that is not true. I remember years ago the dealers used to hang around downtown over by the Paddock but they have scattered since then. 2 years ago we were taking the kids for a walk in their strollers for a nap and when we got to the front property of the Renaissance where the statue is there was a ton of locals hanging out and smoking pot. I was shocked to see it and said something to security. Last year we didn't see any one hanging around that wasn's supposed to. Actually it looks like they beefed up their security a little around the resort which I like.

I know of some "kids" that approached a local who walks the beach daily at the high rise district if he could get them some drugs and he complied.
happiness is going to Aruba with your adult kids because they still want to come with their parents

Have never had anyone approach us about buying any drugs, but I also know it's out there. Have seen locals smoking pot, but my understanding is that it is tolerated by the gov't so long as there is no trouble. Guess since it is legal in the Mother Country it is allowed to some degree on the island.

2 years ago i got approached non-stop down town at night people asking me if i wanted "yay-yo" (cocaine), at one point some homeboys asked me if i had any drugs, i work in downtown boston near china town, which at night there are crackheads everywhere, so i am used to it, but when i was with my mother and family in aruba i didnt expect these kind of people all hanging in corners asking me and my mother if we wanted drugs. I think maybe more of a police presence down town would be better. I personally never had any issues in the high rises though. The last thing i need is drugs, i am whacked out enough as it is.....damn shame..

    • we have been asked 2x.
    • both times were in the same location in the parking area of the kinda dumpy/ratty supermarket behind the renaissance marina tower. (both times we were parked there in the evening while eating dinner at rumbas.)
    • pretty sad that drugs have entered most of our lives either directly or indirectly in our hometowns or at our vacation destinations.
    • the aruba police to my knowledge do not turn a blind eye towards drug traffic, sales, use etc... i think they do the best that they can. aruba has very strict drug laws including marijuana..........they treat drug use and dealings very strictly. holland on the other hand is more loosey-goosey from what i have been told.

NOT a new problem, always been there, just need to know where to look

There were local "punks" pedaling drugs and smoking pot out in the open daylight in the presence of hotel security on the concrete boardwalk between the Hyatt and Occidental going back to 1999 .

This too goes back to before the days of the influx of immigrants to the island, so cannot blame the pedaling on them back then.
