    well...damn !!!!
leaving in a month and staying with sis-in-law at caribbean palm village.....usually stay at divi village (home resort) and have never had anyone come up to me for any reason.....but, i never go out alone at night walking, and do not carry a purse or any visual that would attract an attack. I always have shorts or something with a pocket and that is where money and room key go....or bra if Im up to wearing one (usually let the puppies free on vacation...LOL).
but hopefully things will settle down and the authorities will increase their presence......

Great info - I was not aware of the shuttle. Where do we pick it up?

If one looks at the crime rate in any large US city they will find it much more disturbing than the occasional crime in Aruba. And consider the fact that most people that are out and about are tourists, that further skews the "statistics". Please go to Aruba, maintain your situational awareness and have a great time. I'm not sure when you will be in Aruba, but if it's within the next few weeks, look for the attractive couple in the pool at the Surf Club having cocktails and playing bingo. We'd love to meet you!
I certainly wish we were going in the next few weeks! We aren't traveling until July! Enjoy your trip and thanks for the info!

We saw the shuttle outside of the casino, but just ask at the front desk or the bellman can help I'm sure. Everyone is very helpful.

The golf cart shuttle starts making rounds around sunset. It stops at the front entrances of the Surf Club, Ocean's Club and the Stellaris Casino. We haven't used it recently, but it used to be that the bellman at the front of the Surf Club would call the shuttle driver and find out how long it would be until the shuttle was back.

    Jacki,
Don't let it bother you too much and be assured that there has been increased police presence.

Totally off topic - it's so rare to see someone spell their name like mine - I love it

The crime rate is increasing, and unfortunately we (3 white females) were attacked at gun point just outside the divi golf/tam resort".

She goes on to say that the police response were horrible and she is actually still waiting for them to contact her.

Now, I do not know the details of his attack but every day I am becoming more and more concerned about our upcoming trip. We are 8 women travelling together (ages 17-48), staying at the Surf Club. I know we should always be cautious and aware of our surroundings and all that but for real, what is happening here? My husband's friend just returned and he told my husband that the hotel where they stayed told them not to leave the resort at night (I've asked him to find out the name of the place where he stayed...still waiting).

I understand that the police and the government do not want this getting out for fear of a downturn in tourism dollars. But for God sakes - why can't they implement more patrols and more police on foot. Why can't they make it so that the criminals are basically walking away with stolen money - and nobody is even looking for them?

Sorry for the rant. Just a bit frustrated and concerned here.

    i would say YES.
take the same precautions as you would waling anywhere else.

the whole marriott campus is connected with a very large parking lot and there is a walkway/sidewalk parallel to the parking lot leading from one building to another.

You telling me that booting a car is the use of honey to get a fine paid???
Really? That's what you took from that?
Okay.... What I'm saying is, if one were to approach a situation with a level of manners and "innocence", maybe the police would be a little more likely to help out rather than having to deal with some loud-mouthed tourist that probably is acting like they are the only person that comes to the island, sometimes only because they may be return guests.

    I've seen it.
I'm sure we've all seen it.
That entitled person that figures just because they have laid out however much money to be in paradise, they think they have the right to overrun the country and the natives by being the ugliest tourist they can be.... and often not even realizing they are doing it, and in the offing they embarrass the hell out of their travelling companions and anyone within earshot...
    and ultimately themselves.

And, for what it's worth, this thread was in regard to the robberies, NOT the car booting.

This isn't facebook, let's stay on topic.

I think you should close the thread and let us start over. We have gone way off topic, and the poor dead horse that is the parking situation should be buried and left to rest in peace.
