ARUBA again? Really? Why not someplace else?

Today while in water aerobics, one of the participants asked if we would be taking a caribbean cruise with a travel group here next week. I replied no, that we had been to aruba in may and would be going back to aruba in the fall or early winter.

the reaction was so typical "why do you keep going back?"

my reply was "why not?...it is magnificent"

do any of you have a "standard reply?"

believe me, if there were a better place for my husband and me, we'd give it a try if affordable. as of now, no better place for us and our needs and wants.

My reply.. is that Aruba gives us 110% of what we want for a vacation in a safe, friendy atomosphere. There are too many great reasons to go back to Aruba!

On our first trip down, my wife and I spoke with a couple that had been returning for more than 20 years. I asked my wife why anyone would go the same place year after year. Since then I have been back a dozen times in the last five years.

As for answers; I love the food, the beer, the rum, the people, the weather and I feel comfortable and at home when I'm there. My wife feels comfortable shopping downtown or walking along the beach while I'm diving, something that hasn't happened everywhere we've been.

LOL so we're not the only ones that get asked that......our answer...when you find someplace that makes you feel like you belong there and not just visiting you go back time after time and everytime you are getting ready to go your more excited than the last time....we'll stop going when the excitement is gone.....so i guess we have years & years of trips to go.....Safe travels to all that are going ....

I feel the same way Chadd does. I feel comfortable there. If my husband wants to lie on the beach and I want to go shopping, I feel comfortable getting in the car by myself and bopping around. I have no problem walking round on the strip at nite checking things out if my hubby wants to gamble and i'm not ready to hit the casino. the people are nice. if you want an island, aruba is great because of the reason. other islands are nice in the day but at nite is another story. also, i wouldn't venture by myself on other islands even in the day.

this will only be our 3rd trip so we're newbies by this forum's standards yet I felt comfortable from the first trip there. that says it all..................

When my boyfriend wanted to take me away on our first trip together, he chose Aruba - why? He has been everywhere and likes Aruba the best. He wanted somewhere that he knew the weather would be good (our first trip was in November- hurricane season), that it was safe and the beaches were beautiful - he was right. As we sat having dinner the first night and I was just in awe, I said to him - if I only had this night here, I'd be a happy girl. Well, 5 trips later, I'm still in awe. He asks me every year, where do you want to go - and I always say ARUBA!! As everyone has said, it feels like we are coming home. I hope we can continue to go for many more years. When people ask me that question, I always say - go, you'll see!

the funny thing is i have been asked the question "why not go someplace new and different?" many times.

i really do not care much that folks think it is weird/different that we travel to the same place, i find it interesting that they do tend to make a big deal out of it.

i am enjoying reading all of your responses to the "question of WHY"

Since 1980, and throughout the many changes, we still love going downtown in Oranjestad.

Good morning Andrea, hockeymom, Chadd, Gaby, et al,

I absolutely agree with all of you.

Aruba has wonderful people (Aruban and visitors alike), great weather, beautiful beaches, and a whole restaurant/bar/nightclub/casino scene that must surely be the envy of the Caribbean. But over-riding everything is the feeling of personal comfort and safety. When we are downtown, Donna goes in and out of stores while I find a bench somewhere, and watch the world go by. We never feel the need to be constantly looking over our shoulders while in Aruba, anywhere in Aruba. It is safe, stable and well-run.

Over the years, peoples' reactions to our travelling to Aruba have changed quite a bit. Back in 1980 when I first started my love affair with the place, any mention of a trip to Aruba elicited a polite, but decidedly blank stare. The blank stare was usually accompanied by the inane comment, "Oh, that's nice". About the same reaction I suppose I'd get if I had said I was headed to Mars for a week, but at least they'd heard of Mars.

Fast forward 30 years, and both colleagues at work and friends of ours ask every fall, "Heading back to Aruba this winter?" They just know. There seems a little touch of envy in their voices. Good. Nobody makes them go to Mexico every winter!

Aruba in January, Maui in May. My job pays for our trips there and helps me fill in the time when I'm not actually in either of thiose two places.

My husband and I also get asked this question all the time...although it is starting to change finally to "So are you going to Aruba again this year"? We happily answer YES! My answer is we've been to many islands before we found Aruba, some of them were not safe to leave the resort, some you were constantly bothered while trying to relax on the beach to buy all sorts of things, food and drinks were awful etc. When we found Aruba it was like finding a treasure, the beaches, people, food, etc. I have found our Home away from Home, where happiness lives and waits for our yearly return. There is a reason why you find repeat visitors year after year, some lucky people even go more than once a year!
