trush,
I agree with ArubaLisa, we may not want the park to be closed and/or gated, but there are always those people that do not respect signs or animal life...do not think about the long term consequences of their actions....That is what has lead to this survey. I personally would probably still go if I had to pay, may be a little safer with Rangers on the grounds. I could not tell you how many times we have seen folks stranded with flat tires, that are not smart enough to make sure they have fix-a-flat on them. This is one example of how the Rangers would be able to help, besides protecting the flora and fauna.......sorry, I have a tendency to ramble when I get cranked up about the environment.....especially in such a beautiful place as Aruba.
One final thought....if nobody is held responsible to keep the park clean do you have any idea what it will look like in another 10 years ???? There is already graffitti here and there...UGH !!

Aruba, my home away from home !!

We rented a jeep last Wednesday and did an island tour on our own. Which by the way I don't recommend if you have never been to Aruba before. I think it would of been more enjoyable to have someone else drive and tell us about the sights we were seeing. After you have been given a guided tour then I think it would be fun on your next trip to explore on your own. As far as charging for entrance to the park, if it would help maintain the roads I would be all for it. It was very rough going in many places. I also was aware how isolated you are at times. If we would of had car trouble I'm not sure what we would of done. I have a suggestion for the car rental agencies is that they also rent you a cell phone to go with the car. Regarding the caves and gates, we went to Fontein Cave and they had rangers there that gave a short tour of the cave. The cave has a gate across the front which they close and lock at night. There was alot of damage done to the cave before they started doing this. I'll add some more pictures to my gallery. The picture of the road is actually of a very good portion of the road. I also want to add that right before you get to Fontein is a nice little restaurant- Bocca Prins. The food and drinks were great especially after a couple of hours in a jeep.

Neither did I, but since they look honest I will give them a little more time before complaining...
