I remember that, too - walking out of the plane, getting that blast of windy heat, and walking down the steps and toward "the airport shack". And I also remember paying our departure tax at the airport before they started including in with the airline ticket.

I also fondly remember Lanai #220 - our room at the old Aruba Palm Beach Resort (later the Aruba Grand) that we booked every year from 1996-2004 - it was just steps from the beach and our palapa. Gone forever. Also gone forever is the wonderful QUIET and UNCROWDED piece of beach that is now in front of the Riu. Yes, the beach is still there, but it is no longer quiet and uncrowded.

I remember flying Eastern airlines into the old airport/shack with hand written boarding passes. We spent our honeymoon in 1973 at the Aruba Caribbean hotel (now the Radisson) and had a special dinner at the Talk of the Town. the Aruba Caribbean and the Sheraton next door were the only high rises-and they weren't that high, and no palapa problems either.

i remember going to the Tam when I was in college, back in 1978....downtown was hardly there....My Best friend and I went and met some boys from Venezula...no need to say more...

Who would have thought I would have been back with my husband and 2 little girls 3 & 4.
Now my best friend (still, the same one from college) and I each own 2 & 3 time shares at the Renn with our husbands and daughters...How lucky !

I remember when the only thing across from the Playa Linda was a dunkin donuts, an internet cafe, and some tennis courts.
