    Aruba ............Surprise and Expect

Thinking back to your first trip to Aruba..............what surprised you the most?

If you are planning your first trip to Aruba...........what do you expect?

I think what surprised me the most was the kindness shown by everyone that i met during those travels way back in 1979/80.
My travel experience at that point was a few trips to Switzerland skiing, a few trips to Canada (Quebec and Maritime) visiting family and numerous tris to FLA. I look back at those trips and the word kindness never crosses my mind.

I was very surprised on our first trip that we bought a timeshare. Looking back over 40 years, it was the best thing we've ever purchased!

We've always thought that there would never be a place we would want to keep going back to. Aruba felt like home on the first trip-we just fell in love with the island and everything about it.

My first surprise was how dry the Island was --- we had been to many Islands and were used to lush rainforests. Aruba was a total change of pace. I think I was also surprised at how consolidated the tourist area was - most of it all being on Palm and Eagle beaches.

...how quick the tops of my feet got sunburned.....!

For real.... found an island that proved all the research I had done was 'right on'.... from the food, the people, the weather and the lodging.. and that's why we keep coming back!

Surprised: that we found our way to Paradera late at night with no GPS. You're never lost for more than ten minutes.

Expected: Aruba was EXACTLY what we expected.

We have traveled throughout the Caribbean for over 40 years, experiencing everything from the most isolated to the populated. We were surprised to find a place that presented itself with such serenity and security. Just a complete sense of ease and friendless.

I was surprised at how welcomed I felt; how good the drinking water was and how quickly the stress melted away.

We were surprised to find out that all inclusive doesn't necessarily mean all brands that you actually like are included. On a related note, I was surprised how much we were actually willing to pay for Bud Light.
I was also so surprised at how quickly we became comfortable and how easy it was to get around.

On my first visit in August of 2010 I honestly thought I was going to be Bored during my first visit and that four days would have been enough. I was not bored at all, from the moment I began my journey from Trinidad to Aruba with the connection through Curacao it was not boring at all. I enjoyed every minute of my brief four day stay, from the moment my flight from Curacao took off and got within ten minutes of the island the relaxation vibes took over. Landing at the airport and having to take a shuttle bus to the terminal building where I was informed in immigration that I still had to fill out an Immigration card even though Aruba and Curacao were both Dutch territories was no big deal. Even after having to stand up in line and fill out the card I was still through immigration in a record time. On the drive to CPV my Uncle drove through the Palm Beach Area, where even though it was a Sunday night, the activity felt like it was a Friday night. Then again as I would soon discover, every night feels like a Friday night, dinner was Sunday Barbecue from New Wi-Tai restaurant in Noord, the first taste really affirmed that (1) Aruba was going to be way better than I thought and (2) that four days was not enough.
