    Aruba vs. Cancun

Hi all - I tried to do a search for this but came up empty. If anyone has been to both places, I could use a little help. We were just in Cancun in October but haven't been to Aruba.

Cost: Aruba was a little more expensive but we can live with that.

Beach: Where we stayed, the beach wasn't that great due to the hurricanes which is really too bad. You really couldn't be in the water as it was really rough and the width of the beach itself had decreased considerably. I'm wondering how the beaches are in Aruba in general and at the Tamarijn mostly.

Bars: I was a little disappointed in the fact that there weren't any bars on the beach in Cancun - I just saw some pics that ArubaLisa took of the Tam and it looked like at least one bar was on the beach (correct me if I'm mistaken) - how late do they stay open? The Cancun resort only had one option at night and that was indoors. I would be fun to be able to be outside on the beach having drinks.

Dancing: At the Tam, is there a bar where you can dance or do you have to go off resort for that? We just discovered swing dancing and would like a place that plays older-type music or at least not hip-hop, rap, etc.

Thanks much for any help/advice offered.
    Chris

Well, I've never been to Cancun AND I've never stayed at the Tam. BUT I will say this, my husband has been to Cancun and says it's very "commercialized". We've been to Aruba 3 times and are going again this summer with the whole family and some friends and we absolutely recommend Aruba to anyone who's thinking about going. It's our favorite beach spot, period. The beaches down by the Marriott are not rocky and they're always calm. To me, the further up the coast you go (back towards town) there are spots where there are some rocks, not bad at all but just different than at the Marriott's Palm Beach. Plus you have beaches down by the refinery also that are great. I don't really know of a "bad area" on that side of the island. It's clean, it's safe...I just can't say enough. Regardless of what you're looking for....whether it's doing nothing and laying on the beach, or filling your day with sight seeing, you can do it in Aruba. All of the hotels we've seen have outside bars on the beach and I'd be willing to bet that there's dancing at A LOT of them also. One place we may check out this summer is the Screaming Eagle. I have a post under "Aruba General" named "The Screaming Eagle". Several people have responded and one person even posted the web site. Check it out! Have a great time!

Best part of the beach at the tamarijn is 1900 to 2500 blocks. you can also go over and use the divi beach and huts. The rest of the beach has rocks, which come and go. you can get through them to the water though. Some years thr rocks are totally buried. There are dj's and dancing at the tamarijn. some nights from 9 to midnight, or after a show (from 9 to 10) a resident dj plays dance music from 10 to midnight. you use the open area in the buffet restaurant at tamarijn and outside the buffet at divi aruba resort. Dj will play requests. Bars are right there also. There is live dinner music from 6:30 to 9 PM. see my free website www.geocities.com/THEFEEL2002 for pix of tamarijn and divi aruba all inclusives. also see their website for pix, info, menus at www.megaresorts.com

i've been to cancun once..once was enough..i'll be in aruba for the 11th time in 10 days..there's no comparison..cancun is somewhat dirty and at times dangerous..aruba is clean, safe, friendly, fun, and out of the hurricane belt..you can't drink the water in cancun and aruba has the 2nd largest desalinization plant in the world(hope i spelled that correctly)..the food in cancun isn't anything special..the food in aruba is out of this world..i guess you get my point..aruba is about 100 no make that 1000 times better than cancun..

I have been to Cancun once and that was enough, Aruba is better in every way. And it does not matter which place you stay!
