I know that it would be a nice gesture but the airlines really have nothing to do with your accommodations or problems/issues with your accommodations(unless a hotel/air package was booked thru them), so I really can't see this happening. Business is business.

If someone purchased travel insurance I wonder if it covers a closure of a place they are staying?!?!?

Also Amy I am affiliated with the airlines. Sometimes it doesnt hurt for the customer to talk to an airline about situations like this. I know business if business but there are things that actually are goodwill gestures.

    I am as well.

Of course the old adage is true...."it never hurts to ask".....

DushiHeidi.....I totally agree and although I am not/was not associated with any airlines I agree that a little goodwill goes a LONG WAY.......Most would think that just having the penalty waived and using their ticket for another destination within the year would be a kind gesture.... And yes Amy, your right, it doesn't hurt to ask as one might be surprised of the outcome...... Marl

    Post Update!

I just read this! It is located on thearuban.com.

    (Resort Temporarily Closed)

    December 15, 2009

    Dear Timeshare Owners,

The Management and Staff of The Aruban Resort & Casino regret to inform you of the immediate closing of the resort, including all Hospitality, Casino and Sales & Marketing operations. Management is endeavoring to relocate, reschedule and/or cancel all reservations for the period of December 14, 2009 - January 31, 2010, to other resorts on Aruba, subject to availability.

Due to the fact that the local utility companies turned off the water and electricity to the Resort this afternoon, no telephone or other communication with the Resort will be possible. Please contact memberrelations@hotmail.com, as The Aruban server is no longer operational. For Reservations, please contact ARCreservations@live.com.

We deeply regret this turn of events and would to assure all of the timeshare owners that Management is working extremely hard and diligently to secure refinancing for the project, despite the resort’s recent financial problems and worldwide financial crisis. Unfortunately, this has not been made any easier by the litigation brought on by a small group of timeshare owners. Regardless, we continue our efforts to complete the recapitalization of the project

Please refer to this web site for updates on a regular basis.

    Thank you,

    KL Resort Development Company N.V.

I'm suppost to be arriving in 9 days. I emailed their new email addresses to see what they could do for accomodations for people arriving between now and January 31,2010.

I am not surprised by all that has transpired. We are booked for 12 nights in January. I hope we will be able to find other accomodations and recieve full refunds.
