The Aruban is the old LaCabana Villas which is the building BEHIND LaCabana and farthest away from the beach.

    My Mistake

My appologies to this board. I thought that the Aruban was located acroos from the beach. It is still terrible news about tha Aruban Villas. We rented there a few years ago when it was still La Cabana and truly was comfortable there. Thanks Andrea

Very sad news and with high season coming up I wonder how many are "hanging on" and when the next one will go under? Just hate to hear all this bad news - it really puts a damper on the festive holiday mood :-(

On the website: thearubanforum.com , Jenny and Pedro are working as volunteers to help members/guests of weeks 51 & 52 to relocate. They are not being paid for this but feel an obligation to members/guests of the Island. If you are booked at the Aruban for those weeks, please read their letter to John Cole as posted on that site. It is under the topic KL declared bankrupt., and sub thread relocation: help for relocation weeks 51 & 52

    BANKRUPTCY

Dear Members, It appears the attempts to resolve the situation quickly is very dim. It will be very difficult to take any action until a new Board of Directors is put in place. In the bankruptcy proceeding only the Operations portion filed for bankruptcy. the other portions of the resort did not.

By doing this the Government apparently has no right to step in. No action can be taken until a new Board is elected. I was ordered by the Court to present an agenda to my Attorney by Monday with an agenda and a list of qualified applicants. I am in the process of doing that now.

We will be required to follow the rules of the Bylaws. A General Meeting will be announced. We know a quorum will not be met at that meeting. Two weeks later the second meeting will take place and a majority will elect the new Board.

We will have to do a mailing and try to inform all members of the importance to cast their proxy votes.

We also had our Attorney check the COOP escrow account for the Maintenance Fees. It has a zero balance. This means the Board failed to follow the directive to transfer the funds collected to date for 2010.

KL International has told the Court, they have no money, will pay no bills and the employees will not be paid. it also appears as of today, there is no reason to expect the resort will open anytime soon.

KL was not able to raise additional financing and was given every opportunity to do so. The court case we had against them really in no way had any effect on this outcome. It was inevitable. What it will do is to offer a solution for the future. I will try to get all members information on relocating procedures.

Two Curators were appointed to handle the bankruptcy. Attorneys Swaen & Kloes are now in charge of the situation.

I am sorry that no quick resolution appears now. Things could change, but results that we had hoped for did not happen. The responsibility for this lies with the Board of Directors that were in place at the time of the General Meeting. I do not believe the new board was ever recorded at the Chamber of Commerce

    no sweat karen
    no apologies necessary
folks ALWAYS get the 2 resorts confused

the whole process of the divorce between lacabana and villas, and now the bankrupt aruban made the situation HUGELY confusing.

Add Bluegreen Vacation Club as property manager into the Lacabana and we just shale our heads and say..............why did the original management of the Villas make such mess ups that caused the downhill spiral that has messed up so many?????? Correct me if i am worng.........the original management was OHEM and since the divorce there have been at least 2 others.....maybe 3?

    Aruban Happenings December 2009

Hi...I'm a newbie to this forum, but I own a two bedroom unit at The Aruban...we bought in 2008 and used it in 2009...week #6 in February...we are slated to go down February 5-12. I am totally devastated. What do we do with the airline tickets, the grandkids...it goes on and on...what about the maintenance fees? Why did this have to happen? We love that resort and Eagle Beach, and I bet we paid top dollar, too. We could have bought at the Marriott but it ws so busy on hotel row. Does anyone who has a timeshare coming up have any advice? Thanks in advance. Millie

I'm told there isn't a room to be had on the island from December 22nd through New Year's Day. One place (unnamed) that usually has rooms near but not on the beach for $99/night sold their last rooms at $249/night.
