ATM - Dispensing Florins Only - No U.S. Currency

Since I use my own bank account here on the island for withdrawals, (CMB), I haven't been paying attention to the ATM,s. Our friends have been attempting to get cash from several different ATM,s since last week and we're always receiving an error message. They were using their U.S. Bank card and requesting U.S. currency. Come to find out today the ATM,s are only dispensing Florins and not U.S. currency. Our friends tried again but this time requested Florins, and sure enough to, it worked. Our neighbors have since told us that some banks are only dispensing Florins at their ATM,s but they did not know the reason.

Anyone else having problems/issues with the ATM,s dispensing U.S currency? Could this be related to the recent issue with Venezuela and the run on U.S. Currency?

We had a problem with 2 atms at the Palm Beach Plaza mall last week, getting error messages. We were able to go across to Holiday Inn and use the one outside of their casino for US dollars with no problems.
Not sure when, but we will be back

I bet that it is related to the situation with Venezuelean's wanting the US $.

Now that you mention it, DH had trouble when we were there the week of Thanksgiving. Kept getting error message. He was finally able to get the 100 quick cash at casino and he gave up trying after that.

Very interesting. I typically dont take cash from ATM when away but last trip we extended our stay and I had to...I would have not have been thrilled with 1000 in florins, lol.

ArubaBank has stopped dispensing US dollars from the ATMs unless you have a local US Dollar account. The only bank that seems consistent is RBC with both dollars and florins. CMB is spotty. In the Excelsior casino the machine seems to have a mind of its own

yes this is part of the plan to stop the US dollar drain from Aruba by the Venezuelans who use their credit cards with the 2500$ limit.

Exactly what I was thinking, but didn't want to have to say it out loud. Sad.

We can no longer get travellers checks so I was planning to use atms as needed later in our trip, Just to avoid carrying a lot of cash on our travel and room change days. With this atm issue I will have to rethink this strategy next time.
