I haven't tried a cash back option, but would be a little concerned since there is occasionally an issue with converting AFL to $ as it is.

I would not use my Debit card when out of the country. I actually never use my debit card at all except to get cash out of a ATM when out of the country. If your account is hacked its much harder to get back your "real" money, the CC companies are good about fraudulent charges and remove them almost instantly.

It's also a good idea to make copies of your credit and debit cards. The copies will have your account number and the phone number to call if a card is lost or stolen.

I always make copies of our credit cards, passports, and driver's license. Never can be too safe. I did contact our bank I just have to advise them when it is close to traveling what dates we will be out of the country. Thanks for all the most helpful advice. This site is the best.

BOA did not charge any separate fees. Didn't used any cash back options.

do the grocery stores in aruba even offer the cash back option when using debit card?

often times i feel like i am getting a bit of the stink eye when i am using my credit card at the register.
although always cordial, the cash register folks at Lings really are not overly friendly to say the least.

I had a problem several years ago. Went to ATM at Marriott Ocean Club, tried to withdraw $400, got "can not complete transaction" or similar message. Thought maybe it was over daily limit, tried $300, got same message. Went back to room, logged on to bank, saw that $700 was listed as atm withdrawal. Went to branch of the atm bank, was told I would have to file a dispute with my bank. I went back and filed a dispute online. We were going home the following day, and by that time the money had been returned to my account. Not sure if this was a result of the "dispute" or if the local bank resolved it.
Fortunately, I had another bank debit card and was able to get cash from a different atm.
As for fees, Charles Schwab has a debit card that is "fee free" worldwide, have used it in a number of different places without problem.
