    Aura casino occidental

The casino in the occidental closed on monday.
I know the new hotel ownership, Barcelo went to court on dec 7, the casino owners were
delinquent with rent, like really past due.

The workers at the casino for months had issues with their payroll checks, the bank
    didn't want to cash them.

The problem, bad ownership and management, acquired about five years ago,
this casino at one time was rocking all night.

When new ownership took over, the casino lost their two top people, the manager and shift manager.
from there everything went downhill quickly..

It's disgusting how that casino was torn apart!

Many employees have been there over 25 years, where do they go?

Hopefully it will be sold or Barcelo, takes over.

My gosh, that resort without a casino, makes me sick!!

Sad to hear. But as everywhere, bad management can ruin everything!

Hope a new owner/manager can turn things around.

I would hope that a new casino company would be in the wings and get some of these people back to work. I can't image the Occidental without a casino too..... people have been playing there for years.... and of course, the employees are the ones that take the biggest hit.

    In Amigoe's today:

Aura Casino closed due to financial problems

    Wednesday, December 16th, 2015 14:06

Oranjestad - Aura Casino at the Occidental Grand Hotel is closed until further notice. That has to do with financial problems that have been going on since a longer time...

It's especially sad for the employees, just shortly before Christmas. And who knows if and when they are reopening.

we stopped in there in May, walked in and left.
there was no one gambling. then we went over to the radisson and it was almost as empty.
could there be a casino glut on aruba?

    too bad for the employees.

I hate to hear of people losing their jobs and not being paid like they are supposed to. I hope that whoever takes the casino over does a better job with upkeep and keeping things up to date. Our one and only visit to that casino last year was very disappointing. To us everything felt dingy and outdated, all signs of poor management. Even still, it has to be really bad for a casino to be losing money. Hopefully a new company gets in there and turns it around.
Not sure when, but we will be back

No question the Marriott has hurt many casinos, in this case the lack of proper machines, problem with air conditioning,
eliminated the live music, it became boring in there, people like music, you're drinking, smoking, talking and gambling
    it all goes together.

ownership didn't invest any money into the casino, as promised.

It's a damn shame, same owner of the holiday inn.
The casino could turn around, with new ownership and management..

    Come back WILFRED!!!!!

i read somewhere that casinos are hurting overall everywhere.....aruba, usa etc.
is it because there is now so much competition?
i do know that the marriott, alhambra and crystal are quite busy after 9pm.
we pretty much stick to those 3.

A casino that doesn't make money?? Isn't that against the laws of nature?? On the rare occasion we decide to part with our money, we usually donate to Stellaris
