On April 19 2016, Minister of Tourism Otmar Oduber posted this photo and his comments (in Papiamento) on his FB site:

I'm glad that there will be some restrictions and regulations as, IMO, Palm Beach looks very cluttered.

I don't know. I hope it makes a big difference.

From what I read in previous posts here and somewhere else, many umbrella rental companies have a permit for only five umbrellas, for example, but put out 20 umbrellas over time etc. Same goes for water sports rental companies and ALL companies that make use of the space of the beach.

From the link which schexc just posted you can see more details about the permits.

It is the "rent me" umbrellas and the massive amount of sports companies in certain parts of Palm beach are very busy...the ends of the beaches are quiet as far as sports companies go- as in none. I hate the rent me umbrellas.

Coast Guard with large checks in Aruba

Posted on 16/06/2016 5:49 pm AST | Updated on 6/16/2016 5:50 pm AST

ORANJESTAD - The Caribbean Coastguard conducted a major inspection in Aruba on Tuesday, June 7th. These inspections were carried out in collaboration with the Embassy, Immigration, Maritime Police, Beach Police, Department of Labor and Warda Nos Costa and focused on water sports businesses. The action was a joint coordinated action both at sea and on land. During this action thirty-four (34) vessels were inspected and twenty-two (22) watersport. This resulted in four (4) persons who have been apprehended in the residence because their papers are not in order, namely: one (1) with US, one (1) with Venezuela, one (1) with German and one (1) with Colombian nationality. All four were transferred to Warda Nos Costa for further processing. Four vessels were also given a police report because of the lack of shipping documents and / or safety. It is intended that these checks will happen with more regularity.
