    Bird Sanctuary "development"

Have any of you been reading on social media about development (condos) intruding onto the bird sanctuary area?

If the area is set aside and protected, how can this happen?

The stuff that I am reading is pretty alarming.

This guy, Armando is a friend of paul's.
He has quite a bit of stuff on his public FB page https://www.facebook.com/armando.goedgedrag

I saw a picture of the area a few weeks ago. They have mowed down much of the area. It now looks like a sand flat. I can't believe that they did that. It is very upsetting. Why would the govt. allow that? If I can find the picture, I'll try to post it.

Yes. It s not good. One of the areas cleared was the nesting area for the parrots here. Last week we saw the construction of the change rooms and snack bar on the beach area directly across from Swiss Chalet. I fear that with all the condos going up on Eagle Beach it too will become a crowded mess like Palm Beach. They are building another change room/snack bar about 160 feet from the north fence of Costa Linda. These are for cruise ship people. I was told that strip of land was protected and there would be no building.

We were told about the building next to Costa Linda when we stayed at Costa Linda back in Feb. They also mentioned putting in a bar. They are trying to make Eagle Beach more accessible for cruisers. Costa Linda didn't know about this and filed an injunction so that they could have some input, but it is full speed ahead now. The development at the bird sanctuary is shocking. I'm still looking for the picture of the cleared area that I saw online.

Its disturbing at best, and horrific at worst. I think (actually know) that Aruba has all of the rooms it needs to satisfy the demand for the island. If/when they make Eagle Beach like Palm beach, it won't improve the island at all IMO and I love the Palm Beach area...

Personally, I just don't understand. Why can't they direct some new development to the area between Savaneta and St Nicolaas. The Govt has sunk a lot of Money into new buildings in Oranjestad. Why not put some Govt buildings in St Nicolaas? Decentralize
the Govt functions and breathe some life back into St Nicolaas with its rich and interesting history. So sad to see it in its present state. The presence of the oil refinery aside, there are stil many interesting options the could be built upon for St Nicolaas. I hope this gets consideration before more development occurs at the islands most sensitive nature locations.

with the new widened highway I can only hope this will "pave the way" to a rebirth of the area

So sad! I have been saying it for years not to overbuild Aruba. Less is more.

My criticism of Palm Beach is the relentless overcrowding of the beach with chairs, cabanas, water sports equipment and so on. There is barely a square foot of sand left between the Hyatt and Holiday Inn that does not have something on it. The water is murky due to the sheer number of power boats or jet skis.

I too too loved Palm Beach but it has reached a saturation point
