    Boa problems and open season

Anyone read about the island Boa problems in Aruba Today?
Turns out there are a lot of the snakes on the island and they are threatening the wild life. Government has declared a hunting season on the snake including a $6 bounty for each snake captured.
    Who would of thunk???

    Boa bounty

    Correction
Article was in the morning news and the bounty 10 florin ($5.57) is for live boa turned into the Arikok headquarters between 4/16 and 5/16.

Sounds like a crazy family outing for those interested.

There was an article about them last year before we went. Local scientists were trying to get the government to do something then. They were afraid that all the local wildlife would be decimated like what happened on Guam I believe. On Guam, tree snakes from indoneasia were accidently introduced and they florished there. Killed off the mamals first then the birds. Pretty devastating. Would hate to see something like that happen on Aruba. Problem is there are no natural predators of the snakes on either of these islands.

Dont know why they want them alive. What are they going to do with them if they are caught? Are they afraid of PETA or something. We are talking about total extinction of native animal life if the snakes are not eradicated.

    Exactly
The snake is not indigenous and they can't control the population. They say each can give a birth of 64 snakes per litter!

    yup
    dead or alive
    kinda like osama bin laden

seriously though, they want them brought in alive

they are awful creatures that are preying on aruba's wildlife

very infrequently are they found in the hotel region.
    mostly inland.
