That had to be a hell of a day......imagine getting to airport, getting in line for your flight, then another mile long one at guy checking before you return your visa....and continuing till you get to gate....3 hour minimum...makes me want to drink just thinking about item !!!! Now, where did I hide those Amstel brights ????

    absolutely!
i remember way back on our first visit in 79 or 80.......there was a wild goat situation at the airport.......in the front they were quite a nuisance

and the people selling their stuff in pushcarts right there on the apron where the planes "parked"

We had to board on the tarmac on our way home this trip! I had only done that one other time on a really small plane connecting between Philly and Baltimore. In November, our flight got delayed on a Saturday because the plane was late coming in to Aruba and had an issue clearing customs. There were no gates available once our plane was ready so we had to get on buses out to the tarmac and board. The Aruba airport people did a great job getting us out of there. The airline staff could have handled the situation better, but they made up for it with a credit for us. It never even occurred to me that's just how it used to be done.
Not sure when, but we will be back
