calling to US

We will be going to Aruba in mid-Sept. The last time we were there we bought phone cards that could only be used at a few locations. Now I see ads for cell phone rentals. I was just wondering if anyone had any recommendations if cell phones are better than phone cards and which cell phone companies are best. Thanks

Re: calling to US

Joe,
I will leave the questions as to which company is best and the phone cards VS cell phone issue should also have to be addressed by those that read your message. That is the function of the message board - Sharing experiences.

Some facts that I have written to several travel agencies and things to take into consideration when advising a client are as follows:

Find out the true needs and wants of the client. Calling cards or cell phones (for that matter) are not for everyone.

Calling cards are great for calling - can't recieve emergency calls on them and if an emergency or pending situation exists back home, it may warrant further thought.

If at all possible, do not use the blue calling booths which are located throughout the island. They take credit cards and are very expensive. And I mean VERY EXPENSIVE.

Resort room phones are also expensive, however serve a purpose for limited usage.

Like I said - check out your personal needs and wants.

Best of luck.

Re: calling to US

I used http://www.arubafastphones.com when I was there in April.

They e-mailed me the cell # a few days before I arrived in Aruba. This way you can leave the # at home for family and friends.

You pickup the phone at the airport when you arrive in Aruba and drop it off when you depart.

Joe
I was there in April also. I used Arubafastphones. It could not BE EASIER!!
Pick it up at Kiosk at the airport, or have it delivered. Drop off at the airport on your way out.
no problems. Convenient. reasonable.
dont have to "find a phone" or a calling card or get outrageous surprize bills. Good luck
