Can someone help me on what is the proper tipping amount
I am going back to Aruba again, and have not found not how much to leave for tips. Every bar or restaurant I went to included a %16 percent tip. But when the bill was brought to my table it was marked in bold black letters for another tip. Everywhere in the world I have gone to so far, when the tip is included , that was it. But if you tip another %20 on top of the %16 then Aruba becomes very expensive and you are tipping %36 percent . I ask a few times, and was told the the bar/restaurant/hotel collects these tips, keeps them, and does not give them to the employee's, and this was upsetting to me. I have ask other people who have visited Aruba and all have said it made their trip unfomfortable also.
Any help in this area please. Thanks, Brad |

------ Usually the person who is stating that is a server there expecting another tip. From good sources that 15 or 16% is split between all the help. This means servers, bus people, cooks, cleaners, ...... If the service is great I leave 5% in cash so I know the server gets it that day. >>>> " and this was upsetting to me" ------ Don't let it. If you go back to Aruba again can give you a list of restaurants that want your business without any of that. Last edited by TomFrederick; 07-07-2009 at 02:03 PM. |

If I take a jeep tour and they provide pick up to and from the hotel, does one tip the driver? Just curious and I know everyone has different opinions, just wanted some advice on the subject.
Thanks Lisa

I would say if you are happy with the driver and are comfortable giving him a tip then go for it....once or twice we have been picked up and the driver barely nodded to us as we got on, no tip there...other times the driver talked and asked us about our trips, how many times weve been to the island, etc...he got a tip..... Whether it is expected or not I go by how I am treated.....same as for the waiter/waitress' when we eat out...I have no problem reduced a tip to almost nothing if the service is poor.....it's their job and if they chose that job they should do it to the best of their ability...for whatever reason they chose the job ....
