Car rental, Marriott Ocean Beach

Thanks for the great people who responded to "advice anyone?"...very helpful. Going June 10-18.

We had a few more questions:

(1) Is it cheaper to rent 4x4 from US or once we get to the airport? Are there deals available? What can we expect to pay?

(2) Recent visitors to Ocean Club...any thoughts? I have seen the other postings and it sounds like there are some major concerns.

(3)Would it be a good idea to bring our own sunshade or suntent? It sounds like this whole palapa thing is a pain in the YKW.

(4) Reservations for activities...better to do from home or once there? Cost for fishing...is it $300 half day per person or for the whole boat? Is there a good captain someone could recommend?

Thanks as always.

Re: Car rental, Marriott Ocean Beach

Hey thanks for the response to my ranting... You can go on line from this web site and set up your rental ahead of time. We used Royal for our car, they were great and we got a free cell phone too! I am not sure if they have 4x4's but you can check. You should have no problems at the Ocean club as it has been up and running for a few years and should not have the problems (growing pains) that the Surf is having. I do not know how busy the Ocean Club will be in June but my guess is you will not have near the problems we had in Feb. Finally, you should have no problem setting up your activities once you get there. My husband dives and plays golf and had no problem even in Feb. Good Luck to you and enjoy your trip... it really is a wonderful island!

Re: Car rental, Marriott Ocean Beach

Just got back from the Ocean Club -- I think both of these resorts are having problems. We stayed for 10 days -- 4 of the days, the washers were NOT working -- and the day we got there, we were to check-in by 4 PM and never got into our room until after 6 PM. They admitted that they did not have enough cleaning help to get all of the rooms cleaned and usable in a timely manner. They do have a luggage holding room for you tho so pack your bathing suit and anything you might think you would need to have right away in your carry-on luggage so that you can go to a rest room and get changed if you want to do that! Our room did not contain all of the items that the inventory sheet said that we should have so we had to fight for those too -- such as a coffee pot, and kitchen linens. Our TV just quit working one evening when we were watching the Olympics, but I must admit that they replaced it the next morning! Good luck!

Thanks Barb, Rhonda, Bob and Rose. Your help will be invaluable to us as we embark on our first journey to Aruba. Knowing what experiences you have had helps us to develop the proper mindset and know what we can expect once we get there so we can aaaah!
Finally relax. We can't wait!
