Be Careful and tragedy

Just came back to the states for a few days and want to thank the members of the forum I met and wished we had more time or could of had a drink. Anyway reason for this post is that another trajedy struck Mj's and I know alot of you frequent this place including me. A year to the date from when a chef was killed in a m/v accident two young female staff were involved in a major accident with an Ambulance. One who was twenty passed away and the other still in Hospital serious condition. Anyway the owners who are my friends and great people taken this bad and shut down for a day so staff could grieve and like in the past take care of all of the details and finances for the family back in Holland. The reason though for the post is this and something we want you to be aware of. Be carefull when renting a vehicle and there some very small illegal companies renting vehicles to young people, students and tourists for great rates. The vehicles do not pass safety standards and should not be on the road. There are many great business owners on the island including the above two who I mentioned and do alot behind the scenes on the island. One of them contributes to another board but constantly gets a few attacks from one or two members but continues to go with the punches.
There are also other business people on the island that well only care for the dollar. I hate to sayn anything negative regarding a business but this place who I will not name but starts with an S and ends with a D and was the reason for the accident has no compassion. Soon after the accident and almost one of the first phone calls to the family in Holland was a rep from this shady company explaining the accident and damage to vehicle how they were going to make payment for it. So be carefull who you rent from and I still have friends who use company's that are not the major franchise name and they are great and good to deal with just be carefull with some of these new small ones. Also please be carefull driving in aruba and even if you are in a cab wear a seatbelt please

Oh my God, that is terrible. I remember when they had their tragedy last year, but another one? I have to drop a line to them.

M/V Accident MJ staff members

This is such sad news Mark. We frequent MJ very often and wondering if we knew the staff member that was killed. Mark you mention that there are some new small car rental companies that rent out un-safe cars. Might I add that it is not just the un-safe cars, it is some of the drivers in Aruba, both visitors and locals that drive recklessly . No matter where one lives, be it Aruba or any other country, when you are driving, besides driving carefully and not driving when you have had too much to drink, always be on the alert for the other driver.

This is just so sad to hear. The lovely people at MJ's have certainly had their share of sorrow. My sympathies to all and their families.

I'm new to the forum but definitely not new to Aruba or MJ. Prayers & love to your loss...regulars to MJ's since the mid 90's.

Any more updates on this? I emailed our friends there, but haven't heard back yet.

I'm back in the states but the second girl is suppose to make full recovery. They made arrangements to bring the other girl back to her family in Holland. Karen is right and having a local establishment and as a business owner open late 4am we have to be more responsible and i try to enforce that with my staff. However things are different in Aruba and on weekends you can drink around the clock. But please remember when you rent a car make sure seat belts function and the air bag light is not on. Also carnival is in full throttle like san nick and others have stated be a good defensive driver. In this paticular accident there were many factors including an Ambulance which was speeding but legal to do so and a vehicle with some safety issues not sure if other factors contributed.
