Casino to open at Airport
From another board.
November 11th 2009, Aruba. ORANJESTAD-Endy Croes, Director of Aruba Lotto Foundation is pleased to announce that soon a casino will be opening in the departure hall at the airport. The negotiations for a casino at the airport took 6 years, said Croes. The previous government passed a law in 2006, granting Aruba Lotto Foundation a license to operate a casino at the airport. After receiving the permit in 2006, extensive negotiations were done with the Director of Aruba Airport Authority, Peter Steinmetz. The obstacle was mainly finding a suitable location at the airport to operate the casino. For the casino to be profitable at the airport, it must be located at an area with heavy pedestrian traffic, according to a feasibility study. The airport has offered three very small spaces near the departure gates 1,2 and 3. Croes was not pleased with the spaces offered at the airport, and the project for a casino was put on hold. In 2008, the foundation was approached by a director who operates different retail stores at the airport. Through the intermediation of the director at that time, a new round of negotiations began with the Lotto Foundation, and Peter Steinmetz. The results are that Aruba Lotto Foundation will receive a space near gate 8, another space near gate 4, and a third space opposite Sbarro Pizza. In the above mentioned spaces, slot machines will be placed. The slot machines will be operated by 5 local employees, including 1 manager. Within 3 weeks Aruba Lotto Foundation will start hiring employees for the casino. At present construction of the casino at the airport is in full swing, and an opening date will be announced shortly. |

There is going to be 2 places for the casinos and they are under construction as we speak. The 1st one is going to be right before the US Customs area were they had the empty shops. The 2nd will be at the gates across from Gate 7 and 8 where the AA Club was.
