Cigars!

Does anyone have suggestions on where to buy Cuban cigars in Aruba? Where is the best or your favorite shop? We will travel to Aruba in 2 weeks....I can't wait!

Re: Cigars!

Like here most places in Aruba have some crazy prices for Cubans. Stay away from buying at any of the Hotels way to $$$. I heard some not to nice things about the smoke shop across from the Salt and pepper (not real Cubans and stale/mold) I stopped in there and did there was just something about the place I didn't care for. I have purchased from Cigar Emorim Aruba in the Mall downtown, they are on the first floor. Very nice place help so friendly, knowledgable and pretty good to look at too.. Prices were okay and hugh selection. If you plan to bring them back make sure you have them take off the bands, they will put them into another bag for you so that you can bring them home.

Re: Cigars!

The best cigar shop in Aruba is at the Royal Plaza Mall. It's called Cigar Emporium. They have the best price per box and they are the freshest!!

Re: Cigars!

A good place to buy cuban cigars is a small shop next to Bricknells or around the conor of tomatoe and charlies across the street from the Hyatt Hotel in the high rise section.

Re: Cigars!

There is a place in Oranjestad called Habano ??. It is in the back of an outdoor mall not far from Shiva's jewelry store. You can get cuban cigars from them. They will take off the wrappers, put them in a box marked Dominican and give you a receipt stating that you purchased Dominicans cigars. Trust me, customs cannot tell the difference. My husband said the prices were very good compared to other stores on the island.

Re: Cigars!

There's a very good one in the Renaissance Mall (good prices, large humidor) and another smaller shop in the Seaport mall near the outdoor bar (Maracas?) that has a smaller selection & slightly higher prices. The kiosk at the Arawak Garden (across from Hyatt, near the Salt & Pepper and Tango) is fine for just picking up a few sticks. His selection is pretty good for the size of his Fotomat-sized store. I agree that resorts & quickie-marts will try to rob you blind. Good luck.

Ps. I've also taken home a box of Cubans (cigars, that is) and ran my bags right through security without any trouble.

Re: Cigars!

When you do the tour of the downtown area, & you will... theres a sort of shopping plaza/half-outdoor mall area.. Its the main digs, there. anyways, top of the escalator, theres a shop called jibes, or jives, or vibes, or something like that.. they have a walk in humidor. cohibas, R&J's 10-12$$ or so. Now, if you're like me I even think thtas overpriced because I think cubans are over-rated, simply because they're illegal here... I digress. It is still the best deal in town.

PS, check out the cigar bar across the street from el goucho's - bring your own cigar- the cigar prices there are over priced, but the scotches & martini's are not.

bon bini - cheers
