Re: Currency

I brought half in cash and half in traveler's checks. La Cabana charged 2 dollars to cash travelers checks and hundred dollar bills. I will only bring cash and a credit card next time. And lots of small bills for taxi's 10's 5's and 1's. I hope this helps.

Re: Currency

You will need cash for cabs, bus fare and other incidentals, credit card (Visa, MC, etc.) are fine for paying at restaurants, bars, stores, hotel bill, etc. You also need cash for casino play but they will take Traveler's Checks and there are ATMs available. Just about the same way you pay for things here in the states.

Re: Currency

I took 600.00 cash for a 5 day trip and brought home 240.00 of it. They take US dollars everywhere, but it is easier to pay with a credit card and rack up those air miles! Bring small bills, really, maybe $50.00 in one dollars bills and mostly 5/s and some 10's, depending on the length of your stay. The ones are good for tipping cabs, bellmans, etc., and the smaller souvenior shops. We used the bulk of our cash to pay for jet skis, papasailing, and tubing right from the beach. Snorkeling and scuba can be put on a credit card, as well as a rental car. Don't bother with travelers checks, just the good ol visa or mastercard will do and some USA cash!
