Destroying the island

All this new building is destroying the island. I thought there was not to be any new buildings. New mall and residential condos and now a waterpark by hospital. BLAH!! time for a new ISLAND, if i want the city life, I'll stay home.

Re: Destroying the island

I know...when we bought time-share 20 yrs. ago...we were told then..no more building...it's sad....but I still love it and we just stay away from the Hi-Rises..just enjoy the beach and the older restaurants...they are starting to lose their "quaintness". I feel bad because they will find out that not everyone is going to make money with all the competition..they probably call it"progress"...

Re: Destroying the island

Aruba has a long way to go before it becomes over built. Compared to some vacation spots (i.e. Cancun, Puerto Rico) it has relatively few hotels.

I think the government will continue to be very careful to keep the island in check.

Sad but true! I love Aruba, but I am not sure what's happening there. I am not excited about all of the changes that are taking place there. The charm of Aruba is it's lack of the big city feel.

Re: Destroying the island

It is very sad but true. And the roads cant handle the traffic either. Now, they want to buid a Ritz Carlton too? Not a good idea. Too developed. I hear, Bonnaire is the next up and coming island. It is being a little bit more develped than it used to be, BUT it will never be like aruba. They are not even allowed to have the american franchises there...

we have been going to aruba for 30 years, very disappointed with all the building going on, we went to turks and cacios and it reminded us of the old aruba. It may be time to change islands.

Re: Destroying the island

Greetings to All;

I'm hearing a lot of whinning "its sad" "its not like it used to be" "its losing its charm" and so on.....

Can I have a reality check here folks?

Its called: CHANGE. Tourism is an industry. Notice that each new resort is ALWAYS more opulent and luxurious then it predecessors. It is the nature of the beast.

After 30 years of going to the same place (year after year after year) you don't expect any change????? Huh? The town you live in didn't change at all in 30 years and your vacation paradise shouldn't either?

Going to new places now and then prevents the phenomena.

Wish I was in Aruba now so I could complain too.

Have a nice weekend everybody.

Suds

Re: Destroying the island

Been going to aruba for many years now..... Spoke to a young couple on their first trip to Aruba last month when we were there. It was like our first trip. They were full of excitment with everything about their trip. How undeveloped it was compared to their trips to Cancun and Florida beaches. How great the weather was and most of all how friendly the people were.... It was a nice lesson for me.
