Disturbing

Needless to say,I just completed my umpteenth great trip to Aruba. However what I saw on the last day, early in the morning, was very disturbing.

Less than two hundred feet from the Aruba Grand, a truck pulled onto the beach and discharged its "liquid waste". It had a very "foul" odor and I knew it wasn't good for the "purity" of the water. At best, I hoped that the tide was going out and that such discharge would also go in such direction. On the other hand, is this just the "norm" for such "waste management"?

Can someone give me some comfort in regard to this matter.

Re: Disturbing

That is disgusting! Hopefully someone can explain why they do that and if it's safe. 200 ft from a tourist spot does not sound very safe to me!

Re: Disturbing

This absolutely no the "norm". There is a water purification plant not too far from the Aruba Grand that this truck should have gone to. The driver of this trcuk was handling in violation of the law. You should have called the police, or have somebody call. It would still help if you in one way or the other could identify the truck (license plate - name of company - color, whatever)
This things should not happen

Re: Disturbing

I believe it was a black truck which had the letters "liquid waste" on it. The driver "backed" the truck up to the shoreline and then extended a hose which could be seen from more than 200 feet away. The truck was not considered to be a large commercial size but continued its release for at least 30 minutes while we were there.

Re: Disturbing

Point #1 - This is a disgusting thing and should not have happened at all.

Point #2 - What in the world held you from taking action? Those are the waters of Aruba and should not have been polluted.

Point #3 - Exactly where did you see this, because after reading your post, I went to the Aruba Grand and looked 200 feet in both directions. Ity puzzles me to this moment where it took place. Please elaborate.

Point #4 - I want to report this to the proper authorityies and to the minister of tourism. Woulod you kindly send me your internet address or mailing address so that I can do an official filing of protest?

Re: Disturbing

This is in response to your"points".

1. Thus was very "upsetting" to me too.
2. At first we weren't sure what was being dumped but when we smelled the horrific odor, we knew it wasn't right. However it was daytime and anybody could have seen this truck. It was in plain sight for any beach strollers in that area. Again, we didn't know Aruban Laws on this matter and we weren't near the hotel or anybody else who we could have told.
3. Rechecking my map, I am sorry but I gave you the wrong hotel name. It was near the Divi Aruba Phoenix Beach Resort. Approximately, 100 meters from its beach going away from the high rise hotels where the beach is somewhat "solidified".
Another correction, we both agreed that it was a small black tanker truck with NO letters on it.
4. Being foreigners and not knowing your Laws and Rights to protection, I do not feel comfortable with any direct communications on this matter. However, I deeply appreciate your concerns and anything that can be done to prevent this "dumping" from recurring.

Sorry for the original mis-information but I expect to return to Aruba in late November and will gladly speak to you then, if you wish, on this matter.
