I get a small bonus in mid-December..... and generally book the trip the next day. DW takes care of travel to and from Logan and the pet sitter. I take care of the rest.

Direct deposit - a specific dollar amount goes into the savings account every paycheck (savings account is for travel expenses, emergencies, and 8-12 months of living expenses). Other items that get dumped into savings: annual bonuses, tax refunds, dividend checks, etc.

36th trip to Aruba: Sept. 2018

Throughout my life I always had a savings account for traveling or for emergencies. All the extra money goes in there.

Oh, and another thing......I keep borrowing from my daughters' inheritance. Having paid for each of them to go to 13 years of private schools, 4 years of private colleges and 2 Master's degrees, I think they're OK with that.

Andrea, I got a tax refund 20 years ago when we bought our first house, then paid forever. The first year I got a 6k tax bill I changed my deductions...I now have many more write offs and did not change my federal withholding amount so I get cash back at this point and treat it as my vacation fund, or at least one of them, lol.

I have enough money to last me the rest of my life.
Problem is, I have to die by next Thursday.
