Do you want to help?

Dear Friends of Aruba
My name is Cheryl Caron. I have been visiting the Island of Aruba for the past 20 years and just love it there. I even built a vacation home there 4 years ago. As many of you already know, Aruba is a beautiful and friendly Island to visit BUT Aruba has a problem that many people have not only noticed but been appalled by – the problem is the overpopulation of stray dogs and cats.
I am an animal lover and it breaks my heart to see so many stray animals scrounging for food – many of them skinny and sick. I have worked with my friends and neighbors in Aruba to rescue some of these animals but saving one dog or cat at a time will not solve the problem. What we have learned is that one female cat and her offspring can produce 420,000 cats in 7 years and one female dog and her offspring can produce 67,000 puppies in 6 years. So, this is what we plan:
We have been fortunate enough to secure the voluntary services of two US veterinarians who specialize in animal sterilization and their assistants who are willing to go to Aruba this coming March 2007 to spay and neuter some of these animals for free. I have been working with Animal Rights of Aruba and the veterinary offices of Dr. Contreras in Aruba. We will be using their facilities. You can see some of the work that they do at www.yessy.convetaruba.com Yessy is the person who is coordinating our efforts at the Contreras Veterinary Clinic in Aruba.
I am asking for your help in this project – although the veterinarian services are free, we need to raise money for the surgical supplies, medications for intestinal parasites and vaccinations. (The animals need Distemper vaccines as this is infecting many of the dogs on the Island). We will not be asking for money in Aruba as we feel this should be a gift from Aruba’s friends and we do not want to “cut in” on the donations that ARA gets for their own spay/neuter efforts on the Island.
My friends in Aruba and I will be donating our homes to house the veterinarians and their assistants so there is no cost to house the volunteers. What we need is your financial help to cover the costs of the supplies. This is an opportunity to give something back to the Island and help them solve a problem. We will do this by decreasing the stray animal population in a humane way.

If you decide to help, you can send your tax deductible donations to “Pet Partners – Aruba Project” (a non-profit animal welfare organization) Donations can be sent to:

www.paypal.com then make your donation to eastcoastbm@frontiernet.net
Be sure to put your name and address in the comments section so we can send you a receipt for your donation or,
if you prefer to mail in your donation, you can send it to:

Pet Partners – Aruba Project

Thank you for your consideration…..Cheryl

Re: Do you want to help?

My mother lives on the island we have two homes there right now. She has taken 4 dogs so far. She has taken them all to the vets and they have been spayed I think you should give her a call or email her. She is always doing something for the animals on the island Right now she is making friends with some stray cats at my home. Her email address is felicia97@setarnet.aw Her biggest problem is when she comes to the states and has to find someone to look after these rescued animals Please contact her she is always looking to help the animals.

How did it go?

Hi Cheryl,

How did the spay/neuter clinic go? will you be doing it again. I have donated all of my wedding money (my wedding was in aruba) to the aruba animal shelter. Let me know details if this will be happening again, i think it is a great thing you are doing.

for all that do not know cheryl...........

she and her friend kathy, both own homes in the wayaca secion of aruba.

they are both committed volunteers to help animals on island.

they have given themselves, their $ and their vacation homes to act proactively for aruba's cats and dogs.

they not only assist the animals but they help in educating the public on the benefits and necessity of spay/neutor.

they take much time out of their vacations to be proactive for the animals

just last week, paul and i and arubalisa and family met up with cheryl and a pup named bambi. bambi was an 8 wk old stray found near the airport. well, with cheryl and kathy's extreme efforts and the medical care given by the vet, bambi is healthy and thriving AND has been adopted by my niece jamie and her husband and daughters!

bambi, now 13 wks old will fly home next thursday and will be delivered to jamie/dan and daughters on friday morning by paul and me!

cheryl and kathy and their devototion for aruba's cats and dogs is commendable.

Andrea - I am so glad that Bambi is going to his new home with Jamie. If she is as much as a animal lover as you are, he is a very lucky little pup.

Helping strays in need...

Dear Cheryl,
As I have told you so many time what you do is amazing. Your passion for controling the stray population in Aruba is amazing and needs to be reconized. Those animals do not deserve to be on the streets struggling for their life. In July 2005 I rescued a street dog from Aruba. His name is Dushi and he is the most loveable and adorable dog ever. He has come a long way and will do anything to please his loved ones. I trained him and he now is a therapy dog. I know I rescued him but I feel he rescued you. Many people say how lucky of a dog he is but I do not see it that way at all. I am the the lucky one to have such a great dog.
