Has anyone used Dollar, Hertz car rental. Can you please tell me if they are ok to use.
Or even better can you advise on any other decent companies who use new cars.

I do not recommend Dollar. They tried to rip us off by saying that a piece of plastic missing from the front bumper was damaged by us. The "piece of junk" car had over 80,000 miles on it and a transmission that was just about ready to fall out. We had to pay the damage, but did get a refund after I contacted the company in the U.S. I would recommend using Jansen. They were very nice to deal with and the cars are just about new.

I would stay away from Thrifty car rental also. When I rented a car, I signed for one amount then when I returned the car, there was an extra charge. I asked what the charge was for, they told me because there were 2 drivers listed on the car. No one mentioned that charge when I rented the car, and no where was the charge listed on the original agreement. Talking to the Thrifty representative was like talking to a wall. I ended up disputing the charge when I came back to US. It was just so aggravating.

Tell me about it..,we were on holliday last year from Europe.., and they know that you have A FLIGHT TO CATCH.., so people.., THAT makes us EASY targets ,That's to bad because it allways RUINS a perfect holliday.
All we can do is keep on telling other people
where to rent and were NOT to rent...

We rented from Hertz last January. Absolutely no problems. We got a new Nissan with about 400 miles on it.

We rented from Dollar last year. We were supposed to have gotten a minivan, but instead were given a huge hyundai van. It smelled kind of funky, and after about 2 days, started acting most peculiarly. The electric system was messed up...window wipers would randomly turn on themselves, door locks started locking and unlocking themselves, etc. Perhaps there were some gremlins in the van? My husband called them and they met him with another hyundai van. It was not especially clean or fresh-smelling either, but at least it was not "possessed"! The people there were certainly pleasant enough, and did not play any games with us. The cars and vans, on the other hand, were not in good shape.
