    Down Town Traffic

Has anyone noticed the traffic in down town Oranjestad getting worse and worse? Last week it was down right brutal to get through anytime after 9:30 in the morning. One day I did take the back roads to get by but ended up way past where I needed to go before I got back to 1A.On average it takes about 35-40 minutes to get from the Valero to the Renaissance in the height of the afternoon. Is it me or does anyone else think something needs to be done?

I know it really is terrible, to be honest one day there was not one cruise ship in port and there was a lot of traffic. Not as bad as when there are ships in but it was still bumper to bumper. The other problem which slows traffic is the guys selling news papers in the median. Im curious to see other peoples experiences with this, to me it has gotten noticeably worse the past 3 years that I have been there.

I try to take the back roads and skip downtown whenever possible. The worst times are when a cruise ship are in... And 30 minutes is obscene - the longest it ever took me was about 10 - 15 minutes, although it feels much longer.

I know the time is hard to believe so after we got stuck one day for what felt like 40 minutes, the next day I timed it, we were at Valero at 9:37 and didn't get to the Renaissance until 10:18.
Im getting to know the back roads better I did take them a couple times but like I said I ended up past where I wanted to go by the time I found my way back to 1A.

I miss my turn about 1/2 the time -- the roads are not well labeled back there and some roads which are the "main bypass" route are somewhat smaller roads than what you would expect. I have used the GPS in my iPhone and still managed to get lost back there. It doesn't help that they are always doing construction and sometimes roads are closed or switched to one way.

I have somewhat perfected skipping downtown all the way from the airport to gold coast/tierra del sol. It is when I try to just skip the downtown traffic I always take a wrong turn.

The traffic is getting worse. Really early in the morning, I can make it from Saveneta to Marriott in about 20 minutes but about after 8 am, its like 55 minutes. The downtown really gets loaded up. Hope it will change down the raod.

I usually spend 8 wks /year in aruba and don't go to town once. After reading input from all of you I don't think I'm missing anything!
