Duty free liquor at airport departure?

Can anyone tell me if liquor (particularly Palmera rum and Balashi beer) are available for purchase in the departure wing AFTER clearing Customs? I'd like to bring some home but didn't know if I should purchase and pack in the luggage or if it's available at the airport. Thanks for any info!

I know you can purchase Balashi. BUT we have found it easier to buy it at the supermarket and wrap it in our luggage before leaving the hotel. We wrap it in clothing and make sure it is in the middle of the suitcases. We do have hard sided luggage.

Thanks. I have done the same thing in the past with balashi. Any idea if the local rum, Palmera, is sold at the airport after customs? I just can't recall as I've never done it before. Just concerned about putting the glass bottle in the suitcase. Thx.

Suggest you get it before duty free.... I only saw a couple of small bottles 2 weeks ago and not any selection.

Unless you have a non-stop flight don't buy duty free liquors. If you miss your connection and have to spend the night in Miami, etc.
you won't be able to bring it back through TSA the next day because it's over 3 ounces.

The duty free once you clear US customs doesn't have a very good selection. I'm spoiled after shopping duty free in Cancun and Sint Maarten. Definitely buy your Palmera in a store and pack it in your luggage. We routinely bring rum back from the Caribbean and my wife packs plenty of bubble wrap and small trash bags. She wraps it and then double bags each bottle.

I love Myer's rum and it is dirt cheap there...$15 for a 1 Litre bottle vs avg $28 for 750ml bottle in the USA.

We buy our liquor at the duty free shop on the first floor, right outside the food court, before you clear US customs. You make your selection and pay for it, give them your flight # and they will be waiting for you upstairs with your package. Yes, there is a much better selection downstairs vs. upstairs.
