El Gaucho Resturant

I am planning a trip in June and I think I have read on the message board that this resturant has been closed quite a few times because of salmonella breakout. I have reservations here and now I'm rethinking. Any suggestions, or explanations on whats going on. Thanks for time,

Re: El Gaucho Resturant

I will be there in June as well for my college graduation gift with my parents and boyfriend. Since I don't eat steak, I wont be going to El Gaucho, but my parents love that place and have (and are still keeping the reservation) a reservation there. Hope that helps.

Re: El Gaucho Resturant

Gary,

What an unfair thing to say. El Gaucho had a problem back in Feb (an employee went to the doctor after he got salmonella eating elsewhere)...they took the proactive approach, closed, cleaned and reopened without incident. The restaurant is wonderful and you never wait if you have a reservation. The service has always been good every time we've gone and we've gone many times over the past twenty years. As far as the beef goes..."barely edible" is definitely not an adjective I'd use to describe it.

Re: El Gaucho Resturant

We visited EL Gaucho in January-to us, it was just another steakhouse, nothing special. We we go back? Probably not, cause there are too many great places to eat in Aruba

Re: El Gaucho Resturant

Maureen - We were their in late Feb. of this year " our 1st. visit to the island " and our meal was Great. The steak was some of the best I have had, and my wife is not big on steak and she said it was the best she had ever had. There are alot of places in Aruba for good steak and seafood, Enjoy! <BigPapa>

Its a great restaurant. Reservations are recommended. We never miss a chance to go there. The reason you are thinking they had a problem many times is that one person keeps repeating the same message frequently.

Re: El Gaucho Resturant

The famous Argentine restaurant "El Gaucho" was closed by the
Department of Public Health on Friday after an employee was ill
with the Salmonella bacteria. It is not known whether the employee was
infected by the bacteria at the restaurant or outside the restaurant. The
restaurant had to be closed in order to avoid a spread of the bacteria on
clients and other employees.

People infected with Salmonella experience diarrhea, abdominal cramps,
and fever within 8 to 72 hours after the contaminated food was eaten.
Additional symptoms may be chills, headache, nausea, and vomiting.
The symptoms may last up to 7 days. Many people ill with salmonella
recover without treatment and may never see a doctor. However,
Salmonella infections can be life threatening especially for the very
young, the elderly, and for persons with impaired immune systems.
