    First time to aruba

Hey I am making my first trip to aruba! I have never been on a real vacation. So I will also be flying for the first time. Nervous about flying any tips? I will be staying at a time share CASA DEL MAR. Looks really out dated. Has anyone stayed here or gotten any bad reports or anything? I am staying for 2 weeks!! The only bad news so far is that the main pool at casa del mar is under construction!. i was looking foward to swimming in a nice pool after the sunsets. Can I go to other hotels and swim in there pools?. So if anyone has any tips or anything let me know. Thanks

hi marino and welcome to the aruba.com community forum.

flying tips......if you are real nervous you can get in touch with your physician and ask for an antianxiety medication.
    or
in the vitamin aisle at cvs/walgreens is a product called Valerian and that is recommended by some. (SMELLS BADLY)

i have stayed at casa del mar in the "ambassador suites"...the 1 bedroom units.

both pools at the casa del mar are in tough shape with poor filtration. (imo). so what is your bad news about the pools is good news for the pool. both of the pools really really need a renovation. i am glad to hear one is being fixed.

guests at CDM are allowed to use the facilities at the Aruba Beach Club.
they have a basic rectangular pool that you will be able to use. ABC and CDM are located adjacent to each other.

and..........many of the resorts do not allow swimming after dusk.
so be prepared that the pool may not be available for use at night.

and YES the ambassador units (1 bedrooms) at casa del mar ARE outdated and in need of a renovation. the 2 bedroom units are called "presidential" and i have no idea if those 2 bedroom units have been renovated.

again........welcome to the forum and enjoy aruba.
i am a very nervous flyer too.
xanax is my savior for flying.

Thanks for the quick responce! I am staying in the 2bedroom suite(presidential). I saw some pictures of the rooms and i was very disturbed haha but hey thats what I get for getting a good deal BUT I am planning to use the room for sleeping and thats it. I want to suck up as much of Aruba as possible.

Now the medications you are talking about will those knock me out or will they just calm me down?

I dont want to take a ATV tour but want to rent atvs for a few days. I saw some prices around 120bucks a day. Does that sound reasonable?

I am really excited for the natural pool. I heard there has been a few accidents? Are there some things I should be cautious about?

Natural Pool with Madi -- don't miss!
click above link for some info on a really cool excursion to the natural pool.
    ATV tours?
click on this link for ATV tours

the natural pool can be a dangerous place.
the couple of times i was there there was NO swimming allowed due to the current/waves/surf

i advise you to take some time and read the Activities category and see if there is anything that interests you. if you see a thread there that is of interest, ask a question on that thread.

ya the xanax may make you groggy upon arrival.

    try flying without the meds!
you may just think you are nervous.

Marino, When do you plan on being in Aruba? I stayed in a 2 bedroom but it was about 8 years ago. They were very nice and spacious but they may be out dated right now. Make sure you visit Pizza Bobs if you like pizza. Its walking distance for you and we think its the best pizza on the Island. My wife could eat there every night. The natural pool is nice but if its rough, don't get in. I did several years ago and when it flushed me out, I held onto a rock with all my might and was able to get back in and then got out as fast as I could. People have lost their lives there so be careful. Good luck and I have been to the Island 23 times so if you need to know anything, you can e-mail me direct if you like. kentgerber@adamswells.com

I love flying! The only problem I have is with my ears so I always chew gum as we are taking off and as we are landing. Bring something to do - books/mags, puzzle books, music - something to occupy your time so you aren't thinking about it. I do hope you find that you enjoy flying!
I like your attitude about the room just being to sleep and shower. We spend very little time in our room when we're in Aruba. Hope you have a great time!!!
