first time planning to Aruba...help please!

Ok, so I'm a college sophomore and my aunt gave me the choice of me and her going anywhere for Spring break in March. I am thinking about Aruba because I've never been there and it interests me. Now this is where you guys come in..I would really appreciate any feedback you have about Aruba. Where to stay, what to do, what the weather is like..? I can read all about it on web-sites but I would really like to hear from people that have been there recently or go there a lot. If you could post back then that would be great!!

Also, is there any surfing? Not like kite surfing, like real surfing? Just wondering..

Hello Jamie,

There is a lot surfing near the hotel area.
I come from the Netherlands and visit Aruba every year, just back unfortunatly.
If you like to go to a nice appartment chose the Bananas appartments, about 70 dollar the day.
It's a beautiful and safe!! island although Twitty Holloway talks bad about the island.
you would like it there.

Jamie, Great choice on going to Aruba. I have been going there for the past nine years and love it!!!! Surfing, sorry, very little waves, but there is great wind surfing, snorkling, scuba. I always like to take one of the horseback riding tours, one that goes to the Natural Pool, and then your ride back to the ranch is on the beach. They also have jeep tours and ATV tours. Otherwise, I like to kick back and relax in the sun. The weather is fabulous. Downtown has shopping. I prefer staying in the high-rise area. There are tons of great places to eat as well: Salt and Pepper, Papiamento, Marina Parada, Tango, Que Pasa, SoleMare, Flying Fishbone, Brises del Mar.....I leave in 5 days and I can't wait.

When you arrive in Aruba, get a taxi
to get to your hotel or wherever you are
staying...There is a shuttle that is usually
provided through your hotel, but you will
arrive much sooner taking a taxi.

The waves are not really for surfing with
a surf board, but are great for windsurfing
You can rent a jet ski and that is fun.

Rent your own jeep and tour the desert
side of Aruba...that is a lot more fun
than taking a tour..

Go to Carlos and Charlie's which is
in Oranjstead, Aruba is safe all over
so you really don't have to worry too
much...shopping is great..

There really is quite a bit to do, you will
be given enough literature when you arrive.

Have fun.........

Just enjoy..

I like down town. No need to rent a car great shopping 2 casino's plenty of resturants. We own at the Marriot Rennisance. If you want to pay a little more try to stay at the beach towers. if not the marina towers have just been renovated and there pool is classy over looking the marina.

Don't know where you are staying, but the best info I got off this board before we went this summer, was to pack the bathing suits and suntan lotions in my carry on. Our plane landed around 11:00 a.m. and check in wasn't until 4:00p.m. We happened to get lucky and checked in earlier, because we took a walk to see where our room was and saw that they were finishing with the cleaning. Had a fabulous time. Also we rented a cell phone from Arubafastphones. Terrific people to work with. Service to the states was good.

Re: first time planning to Aruba...help please!

Hi,

See my post under "what to do in Aruba?".
I like to have a kitchen and so find the Mill to be ideal (either A or B room).

If you are a scuba diver, bring your own gear and Unique Sports are reasonable. But at $25 per day for gear rental they are pricy by my standards. Snorkelling is great at DePalm Island, but also good at Baby Beach and Malmok.

Sorry, but waves are rare on the west side beaches where I have been. Maybe on the St. Nicholas side by Baby Beach?

And if you go to Carlos and Charlie's and get drunk, beware of accepting a ride home with some local guys :-(

Re: first time planning to Aruba...help please!

Aruba is a great choice:

-Great weather
-Great beaches
-Great people
-Great restaurants
-good casinos

To me, the only thing that might be missing are a selection of nice shows but if that is not very important, Aruba is the BEST choice for a vacation.

Hi, for surfing waves, check with the guys at Bula Surfshop in the Royal Plaza Mall. There's surfing and bodyboarding on the north shore, mostly locals. waves are not huge, but it's good enough to have fun.
