Gang war downtown Oranjestad, Aruba

I saw on another Aruba board about the gang war down by the Royal Plaza Mall last Saturday. Many arrested and they even made trouble at the hospital. A police car was hijacked and burnt too. Anyone have more info on this riot? I guess it says 100 or more hoodlums were involved.

As mentioned in other posts there.
Gang/turf wars have been going on for years. It is that now it has become more open. Possibly with the new immigrants is has become a bigger problem.

Also happened in the "wee hours" and the police immediately ordered the bars in the area, C 'n C and Bahia, to shut their doors. Hopefully very little threat to tourists. I know I am busy sleeping at those hours getting ready for another tough day at the beach.

When there is booze, teens and no parental supervision.......................you get bedlam.

Folks need to realize that this kind of thing can happen anywhere.
We aren't used to hearing it about Aruba though.

Unfortunate indeed.

War is a big word

Around the nocturnal area there's sometimes scuffling that goes on between people that have been drinking too much. What happened last week was two groups of wannabe gangsters (young hoodlums with too much time on their hands) that want to play tough. Many of them were arrested during the following week.
