Re: Gifts for the housekeeper and others!

What a great bunch of people on this bb. Thanks for all the input. Howard your right on the money regarding the negative remarks when someone is asking for help.

Positive attitude and a smile on your face adds years to your life.

I believe I'll be picking up some items at the Bath & Body store, a few small Village Candles (my favorite) and our business t-shirts in adult & children sizes. What adult or child in Aruba would have a t-shirt with a combine on it. The sheet idea sounds great but limited to suitcase space. Trying to use carry-on only!!

10 Days to go!!!!!!!

Re: Gifts for the housekeeper and others!

Monetary gifts are great and a little extra goes a long way. My friends and I stay at a time share the end of May. We celebrate Memorial Day as we do at home, we Bar-B-Q (prepare salad, bake beans, etc.) and surprise the front desk staff and prepare plates of food for them. They always remember us when we come back 4 months later (in September). We always show our appreciation for a job well done anyway we can.

Re: Gifts for the housekeeper and others!

For the *bartenders* (yes, in addition to monetary tips) :::::

What is more common a tool of the trade than a shot glass?

If you want to give a *useful* and meaningful gift/souvenir of THIS type, is there one with a logo of your particular country, state, national or college sports team?

I've seen bartender "collections" like this, where they can say: "Someone from Ohio gave me this ...." "Someone from England brought me that ... "

Just an idea ...

Re: Gifts for the housekeeper and others!

I always give our housekeeper $25.00 a week and every week after when we arrive. Many others do the same in our resort. The ladies tell us they like it that way because the $'s add up and they then can buy a bigger dollar item they may need or want. This past year with what we tipped and several others for the 4 weeks, our maid was able to get a beautiful sport Movado watch she had been looking at for a good while. She changes our sheets more often and thats a plus. I do know that a fair amt. of people tip nothing. $'s speak for themselves.

We always leave money but also we stay in a timeshare and ask her if she wants our food that we can't or don't want to take home. Liquor, beer, cereal, butter, coffee etc. It always seems like she appreciates it. Only wrapped stuff of course.

Re: Gifts for the housekeeper and others!

I can see leaving wrapped cereal etc. but wrapped liquor?
Come on guys, spend your last night finishing off the heavy duty stuff.
You should leave no booze untasted and not finished. Plan ahead. If you see good liquor that may not be consumed, have a pour at breakfast and lunch. Hiccup, good idea? hiccup!
